Congrats! Don't believe I've dug a Buffalo myself, nor a V (for sure). One of these days though 8-)

You did 5 times better than I did today- congrats on putting a nice nik in the pok.

Hey a first is a first, :hello2: especially when it comes to the different designs of the older coins.

Nice find. Way to get back out there and beat that old football field down.
It definitely looks like there is a 3 at the end of the date. My guess is 1923.
I cropped the pic with Irfanview and did some color corrections to try and better see the date.
Not sure if it helped or not.

Thanks BP!

I went ahead and tumbled it and the two "V" nickels I found last month.
It did turn out to be a 1923 Buffalo.
Good call BP!
Next up on my short list is a silver quarter.
I then want to find a large cent too.

Cool. I wasn't sure if it as 23 or 33.
Its hard to hurt a buff nickel in the tumbler. Yours looked in pretty good shape, considering it was in the ground for a very long time.
I have found many with no date at all, so a partial is not a bad find.
Your quarter will come soon, but a lot of the public areas have been cherrypicked for big silver, you will have better luck on a private prop permission.
The Large cents seem to be pretty rare in the south. We are hunting an 1840s site. Actually just got home.
We have dug 6 half dimes, a half reale, and a silver dime. All of these are pre-1857, and no large cents.
Surely you think we would have dug a largie by now. :dontknow:.
Snagged a 1841-0 half dime today, and a dragoons button, will post finds later.
