Thanks for all of the replies.

Like I said it took me all day long and three parks to get the clad. I found the relics along a tree line at one of the parks.

The old hoe was flat side up and when I dug far enough down I just saw a big flat iron plate and wide....I was thinking...maybe the top of a container....my mind was working.....cache possibly????? Oh well....

Nice haul and I'm sure you're sore not only from all that digging but hauling all that metal around takes it toll as well.

Nice pics too..

Lejeu,

Wow girl, you really did some digging. Awesome finds!! I didn't find my 1st horseshoe till I went to JD's MO hunt. Guess what? Got one of those bullets too...found by hubby, his story was during WWII the local base used Lake Pontchartrain as a training area to train the gunners firing machine guns from aircraft...how true is this? No clue, just basing on his statement. Anyway, dredging the lake for shells (when they were still able to use the shells in driveways & parking lots) this bullet was mixed in with the shells.

;) RR

Yes, 50 cal, and if there was a WW2 gunnery range in your area it is very possible that is where it came from. We had Millville Army/Air Field near me that was a P47 training base during WW2. In the fields near the airfield there are hundreds of those bullets everywhere, and they sound just like a big ole coin!! The Army bought up all the surrounding farms for using that area as a target range for the P-47's.

Nice find on the horsehair, I only occasionally come by one of them whole. I display mine on my wooden fence posts in the garden. :)

The bullet has to be a .50 because it is about half the diameter of the quarter. The part that bothers me is the color. tracer or armor pierceing maybe. And, it didn't hit anything or it wouldn't be so perfect. Must have just fallen out of the sky.

Awsome.

You know...when I dug that horse up up I really thought about the muleshoe thing....good memory Ringfinder...lol. I wondered to myself....horseshoe or muleshoe?? ???

I thought the same thing....what is a round like that doing in a park area?? Scary huh?

Hey pretty girl!-

Here's a couple I found at WW1 Camp Logan - I thought the one on the left was horse and the right was mule ...but further down the road I heard they both wear the same styles. The shoe on the right has the "catkins" which flare for the purpose of traction. They shod draught animals with these. It is also much larger than normal.

Nice finds! Love that big bullet!

defintly not 50cal. that would be 1/2 inch in diameter. looks like 30.06 or there abouts.

Agreed 30.06 cannon round cica WWII used in areoplanes etc...

We've got more than enough + I know how dry it's been down your way . Did you get that pepper spray for bears + other obnoxious creatures ? lol That stuff will stop a mack truck . HH

This is too funny, I went out yesterday and found a Horseshoe.............. and an old Hoe........... and a 30 06 shell!! Plus a couple other things. Kinda odd that those were found on the same day, here is a quick pic! Also some old pump thingie and a metal Pepsi sign that looks like it will clean up perfectly (just need to clean it)

Just wanted to know if you chose the DFX and if it was your first day out with it. I received my DFX today, but it rained all day.

Wow...how ironic that you find the same thing. Your old hoe looks to be in better shape than mine. You had a good day too....congrats.
