Went back to the mill pond for a few bites. Bit of poison Ivy and few keeper.
The lead seal reads J Hustler & Bro. Manufacturers
On the back are the numbers. I haven't had the chance to research the seal yet.
I also managed to get a little cuff button and a complete turtle shell.

That is a beautiful seal!

That's a very nice complete seal. Never seen this particular type before but looks to be early to mid Victorian. Congratulations!

Thank you Aureus
That would place it in the time frame. The mills started 10yrs before the Rideau Canel was completed.
I'm wondering the country of origin.

Very Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Most likely a Cloth Seal.

Thanks Cru-You jogged the brain that's what it is exactly. The folded seals were for cloth so they didn't damage the material, where as the bale seals have the wire.

That really is an interesting piece!
Funny thing though...I was having trouble figuring what all the excitement was about. Nothing all that special with something from Hutzler's.

Dang old eyes!! :BangHead:

If I had read more carefully I woulda voted sooner!

ANCHOR WORKS textile mills Manchester England TP

Started in Scotland by the Clark family 250 years ago Anchor Brand
Thanks TP
I get the anchor reference.
I'm wondering how the J Hustler & Bro. Manufacturers fits into the picture.

The next stage of manufacturing ,specific products eg haberdasery TP

British haberdashery sells sewing notions like buttons, zippers, and thread .

I get what your saying thanks.
It's a long process going through the book of name/manufacturers.

Awesome seal, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

I guess my original thought of it being c1917 are a tad off from mid-Victorian Period. :laughing7:

Nice find buddy :icon_thumright: If anything... this is just the tip of the iceberg of finds from that site.
