Went on a road trip today to get some detecting in.
About 60 miles across country to the permissions.
6 sites were planted in winter wheat.
2 sites in a 1 foot plow, and 1 site partially cropped.
20231105_081558.jpg

So first target after 30 minutes 1867-1967 penny
20231105_084444.jpg

I said that needs to a 100 yrs older.
1.5 hrs later the next target I finally justified in taking a photo.
A saw nut
20231105_101433.jpg

I got tired of plow row detecting so I went on a corn stubble field, found what was a big ash layer down 6" and over a large foot print.
Probably a barn that burnt down.
So between the saw nut and this buckle was another 2 hrs.
I was thinking this is a hard day for no really good keepers.
20231105_124037.jpg

Few minutes later this item, a tie pin of sorts?
20231105_132901.jpg

Then a button
20231105_132115.jpg

Crushed thimble
20231105_125148.jpg

The next one I thought it only takes one to make a hunt.
Beautiful bell
20231105_134231.jpg

Little did I know that 10 minutes later life would so great!
Solid 80 on the Deus ll
I thought gee a coin would be nice.
Dug the plug saw the edge-and for next few minutes I just looked at it and said NO WAY!
I looked away looked down and said it again No Way.
I must of repeated this 10 times.

150 yrs of being rolled around in the field.
She's only been kissed on the cheek.
I'm too excited, too tired to clean anything up.
But will tomorrow and post the other stuff.
Perfect day!.

Congratulations on the gold coin
I have 38 years of digging behind me, but still no gold coins :dontknow:
Thanks Steve
I only have a 1/2 & 1 Real so I'm thinking you are the King of the Spanish Silver. :headbang:
It's not like you're digging in the wrong spots either.
Though I was just hoping for a greenie-that's how the day was going. :laughing7:

Best of luck on the next hunt-hopefully that bucket lister will come about.

OUTSTANDING recovery!!!! A GOLD coin!!!! I was getting excited just reading your post and looking at the play by play photos.
I can’t even fathom losing a gold coin today or in the past. That must have had a great value back then.
Are you going to hit that field again?
“Thar’s gold in them thar rows!”
A big congrats to you. 🍺

Thank so much
I really try to take at least one photo of a potential keeper.
Not that sometimes it turns into a frog instead of a Princess when the dirt is taken off. 🤣
A few times (still remembered)
Oh Ya! thinking.
Then photo 📸 like a paparazzi.
Only to find a real toad in the clump of dirt for a recovery.

Congratulations! Your reaction was similar to mine when I found a gold coin. I however, thought it was a gold foil wrapped chocolate. So glad I was wrong.
Lol that reminds me when I found a gold nugget. I looked at it like hmmm this ball of aluminum foil is sure heavy and weird colored.

Thanks
Detecting is like a box of chocolates we never know what we might get.
The air might of been a tad blue if it was a foiled wrapped chocolate wafer.

I cant say a whole lot more than what has already been said..

Great recovery!
You just never know when that next killer find will make it's way into your pouch
Thanks Ironhorse
Your settler sites seem a lot richer than the homesteaders out here.
Totally agree we just never know, it's the kid in the candy store effect most times still.

Absolutely taking time to savor the moment. I don't blame you.
Congrats on a very nice coin in what looks to be uncirculated condition but with a kiss on the cheek like you said.

Was Canada in the same economic doldrums as the US in 1872?
Most US coins from 1872 command a premium due to low production numbers.

Yes I really sucked up the feeling (Just between us-it took the eyes a moment to clear also-got a tad misty out we'z might say in all honesty)
We had a political scandal about money and R/Roads, and the actual collapse started in 1873 as the history reads.
But probably what is written and the daily needs of a regular folks was different.
This gold coin was minted in Sydney Australia.
