"I see guys here all the time metal detecting, and they say all the good stuff is gone from here. You’re just wasting your time."

This was the advice I received this morning from a fella walking his dog in the park I was hunting. Interestingly, I was digging a quarter from 8” when he walked by and imparted his wisdom upon me. I thanked him for his sage advice, and said I just might as well quit now and go somewhere else. He walked on and I went on to dig the rest of this small cache of coins.

Not sure if it was kids or adults detecting here, but when I got a nice loud 31 screaming at me from just below the grass, I looked to see that the spot had been dug up before. I just moved the dirt with my hand and found that whoever dug this hole, put back the large disc that looks like a watch back. Really?? Putting your trash back in the hole? I must say, this is the first time I’ve seen this.

The other picture is the penny I dug at the full length of the pinpointer at 10”. The Equinox signaled like that penny was sitting on the grass. What a crazily amazing machine. I think I just might keep it in the herd.:clapping:

Anyway, today’s goal was to find $2.50, which would put me at $100 of dug coins since July 22nd. I made it, and think I’ll visit this "hunted out park" again in the near future.

He might have been talking about old silver coins, I don't waste time with the clad as I'm looking for the old stuff. I've been invited to detect newer parks where the guy said I pulled 8 dollars in quarters the other day, I told him I can go to the bank and get change if I wanted. HH

I hope I never lose the excitement of digging pocket change. Hunting silver is fine, just, like targeting artifacts is fine, but what do you do with the clad that interferes with your silver hunt? Does it just go into your trash bag and get thrown out at the end of the hunt? Do you just pass on digging it? I’m not sure how one can be that selective...can you elaborate on your technique for doing that? I’m new to this, and still don’t know what I don’t know.

Congratulations on the hunt and reaching your goal! :occasion14:

Remember: No place is ever hunted out!

The parks around here any silver left is really deep so to maximize my time I listen and only dig the real deep targets, you can't always go by VDI numbers on the really deep targets though. When digging the whisper targets I usually end up digging a deep wheat or a silver dime, if I dug every target I would be spending all day digging clad. I really try for private property as the pounded parks you might detect all day sometimes without finding any silver. HH

Can anyone think of a greater confidence builder for newbies than good old park clad? It’s ubiquitous, and even the newest newbie can find it. I celebrate every milestone in this hobby from my first clad quarter at the church volleyball court on day one of detecting, to my first multiple ring day just recently. It’s all good! Let’s never forget that everyone had a first day at everything they’ve done, and we should not discourage or disparage them for their lack of knowledge or sophistication.
