"I see guys here all the time metal detecting, and they say all the good stuff is gone from here. You’re just wasting your time."

This was the advice I received this morning from a fella walking his dog in the park I was hunting. Interestingly, I was digging a quarter from 8” when he walked by and imparted his wisdom upon me. I thanked him for his sage advice, and said I just might as well quit now and go somewhere else. He walked on and I went on to dig the rest of this small cache of coins.

Not sure if it was kids or adults detecting here, but when I got a nice loud 31 screaming at me from just below the grass, I looked to see that the spot had been dug up before. I just moved the dirt with my hand and found that whoever dug this hole, put back the large disc that looks like a watch back. Really?? Putting your trash back in the hole? I must say, this is the first time I’ve seen this.

The other picture is the penny I dug at the full length of the pinpointer at 10”. The Equinox signaled like that penny was sitting on the grass. What a crazily amazing machine. I think I just might keep it in the herd.:clapping:

Anyway, today’s goal was to find $2.50, which would put me at $100 of dug coins since July 22nd. I made it, and think I’ll visit this "hunted out park" again in the near future.

so I take it that you are happy with the 600? I am with mine. great job

Nice work!!! 🙌 I went through that exact same scenario about three months ago...Guy chewing my ear off about he and his buddies had cleaned every last goodie out of this new park I'd found. He was pushing a bicycle with a Chihuahua in the basket and just kept it up, leaving the sidewalk to follow me into the grassy areas. I get a good, repeatable 24 on the Nox and start my plug. He says "Wasting your time...it's a bottlecap or pull tab." About 7-8" down, out pops an 1891 IHP that would easily grade AU. As I handed it to him, he was saying "Looks like a penny, probably a Memor...." Stopped mid-word, handed it back and stalked off muttering. 😂 I pulled four War Nicks and four other silvers (2 on edge) there...from places he and his buddies couldn't have missed. 😁

I hear that often at older homes. My first response to them is “Well You don’t mind if I give it a shot anyway do You?”
I always score a hunt, and I’ve found some nice coins people have missed. It’s Never hunter out lol
Great job and continuing on with a Smile:laughing7:

Some of the more productive permissions I have hunted have always started out with the land owner granting permission and saying "but you aren't going to find anything."
So much that this has been an ongoing joke between my detecting buddy and me. When we hear those magic words, we can hardly wait to ground balance and start swinging.

Hi, nice hunt with some nice finds. Congrats:icon_thumleft:

Congrats guys, but if you don't mind, ask them what detector they were using so we know what not to get.

Joe, you've got exactly the right attitude! Don't assume anything is hunted out! When you get on a site loaded with the old pulltabs, say, "Thank-You" and dig every single one of them and watch what happens. Gold will surface!

Sounds like a good hunt. I know my 800 is a coin sniffing detector. I have done very well with it, in the 6 months that I've had it.

Yes...I’m sufficiently "chuffed!" :hello2::headbang: (a little play from Digger Dawn. :icon_thumright:)

He might have been talking about old silver coins, I don't waste time with the clad as I'm looking for the old stuff. I've been invited to detect newer parks where the guy said I pulled 8 dollars in quarters the other day, I told him I can go to the bank and get change if I wanted. HH

The equinox is a great machine and you just proved it. Congrats on the finds after being told your not going to find anything here.

Or he was asking guys what they were finding and they gave him the same stock answers I give to avoid hassles. “Nothing”, “junk”, “bottle caps”, “all the good stuff is gone”... yada yada yada

Congrats guys, but if you don't mind, ask them what detector they were using so we know what not to get.

I’ve only been detecting for five months, and in that time I have purchased a total of five machines...I sold one and now have four (I’m real good at math. :laughing7:) Each and every one from the $50 Bounty Hunter to the Equinox have given up a dandy pile of coins. While each successive machine I acquired had a little more sophistication than its predecessors, each had to be learned and worked with to make them productive. Out of the box they were just another toy that needed a bunch of batteries to make noise, but once I learned how they worked and how to make adjustments for the hunt site, they became productive tools for detecting.

I think most detectors sold today will produce coins and artifacts once the operator learns how to use the machine as it was designed to be used, and within its design limitations. Each of the machines I own was researched extensively, and then I spent time learning and swinging them to learn their limitations. That being said, I don’t believe it is the machines that have been used on this site, as much as it’s the operator proficiency with those machines that tell the story. I’ve been a self employed contractor most of my adult life, and can attest that without proper training, the most expensive tool in the hands of someone who doesn’t know how to use it it useless, and will produce abysmal results. On the other hand, I’ve seen some amazing work done by tradesmen with simple tools used to their maximum potential. The same can be said for metal detectors, and the seasoned veterans here with 15, 20, 30 and more years of experience will attest to that. They dug amazing finds with very low grade technology, because they learned how to maximize the limitations of their machines.

I welcome all the swingers that want to come on this site, because I really haven’t seen how they have impacted the potential of future finds for me. I know I’m going to listen a little closer, swing a little slower and dig a little deeper than they do, so there’s lots more here for me.:headbang:

I think also some people say that just because they dont want you detecting at THIER PARK even though tier dog does more damage than we do Well done

Cool finds Joe!! Congrats!!

I don't think there's any question that the technology today is going to find stuff older detectors missed. I've received that same comment as well on all my permissions & I'm still pulling out goodies. And the Equinox definitely has the smarts to sniff out what is left.
