So, on this thread what I would like to have everyone do while they still hopefully have their bottles on hand from my last thread is to post a picture or two of their largest bottle. My reasoning behind this is, from my experience larger bottle did not survive to be found for the majority. Usually we find bottles that are not as vertically advantaged as others... I for one, do not have many larger bottles but will try my best to get a picture. Thanks in advance!

So here is the biggest bottle I could find. It's an olive three piece mold. Not sure of the contents due to their not being much marking on it.

My tallest are these 5 & 6 pint Spring Waters...

Here's my biggest bottle. I got this one, and two more like it, in Spain on the Costa del Sol (sp.?). Getting them here to Florida was the challenge. I think it's 50-55 liters in volume. Free-blown, smooth base, sheared lip, applied string. About 22 inches tall.

I knew you'd have a good bottle harry, thanks. That's huge! It's amazing how something that brittle with that much surface area hasn't been smashed over so many years.

epackage, after looking at a half pint flask I have I realize how large your bottles are as well. Very impressive.

That's fascinating, so interesting how they went about their business back then.

I love that thing! Was it actually found in the wild?

The bottles were stored in a warehouse. They were covered with pigeon droppings. Fortunately, they had flimsy covers of woven split willow. I had to take them out of the frames, then cut away the willow, then wash the bottles before I could put them in the truck with me. How about that for wild. :tongue3:

If take that kinda wild any day! I wasn't trying to say that they wouldn't be as cool if you didn't dig them or anything like that. I would gladly pay for one of those.

You are unlikely ever to dig one of these demijohns, except with the 'silver spade.' They were used and re-used over and over. When thrown away, the vast majority of 'em were broken. The only one I ever dived up was in pieces. Anyone here ever dug or dived a demijohn?

Which is the point of this thread, these large glass vessels were not very likely to make it through human abuse. The biggest of bottles are less likely to be dug or found at all. Which makes Harry's (largest glass container that is antique that I've seen) amazing!

Actually the OP says that this post is for your largest bottles because large bottles tend to be more rare. And they are obviously unlikely to be dug or found which is why I will continue to ask every time I see one because there are most likely are one or two out there. I would like to find one and get the story of how it happened. I love every antique bottle I see regardless of how the heck it was obtained. Judging y'all's finds for being bought is wrong and I Never Have but telling someone their find is amazing followed by me asking if it was dug or not is Harmless so I'm done typing about. Happy hunting, happy buying, and happy trading to all and to all a good night!
