Let's put it this way. Say you wanted to buy a 2011 Corvette Callaway C17 with a super-charged 6.2 litre 606hp V8 for the retail price of $90,000.

You brought into the dealership 9,000,000 pennies (cents). They would have the right to refuse that payment.

I don't know, but I think I'd have a hard time refusing someone offering me 9,000,000 pennies. I wonder how long it would take to roll them.

I'd sure never know . . . by the time my wife was done "searching" them I'd probably have 8,000,000 pennies to spend and 1,000,000 error coins to try to get her to part with. I'll guarantee that no error coins get past her under any circumstances. She even found two wheat back pennies with "pinned" dates.

An upscale Hamburger joint and a gas station in my area that both do a great business love it when I bring in my rolls of quarters ,dimes , nickels and cents as payment. They've all been either cleaned or tumbled and none are thrashed like some I have received in change .

I once had one of the cashiers at the burger place say " how did you know I needed these , I was just about to leave for the bank ?
Yet , I have had a Safeway store say " no, we can't take but a small amount of change , you can put them in the Coinstar machine over there ".
No , I don't feed the Coinstars , but I check them out when I walk by them and a few times it's been well worth it .

Southern gentlemen wouldn't do that. Man up and pay your bill, simple as that.

the 'revenge' thinking is so sad...truly. waste of energy that could be put to good use!

And in the South we don't agree with the outcome of the court ruling, we just shoot someone instead...easier ya know? Like "the lights went out in Georgia---the body will never be found

It's the "your bill" part that throws me. Who determines that an X wife's upkeep should be her X husbands "bill"? That's messed up.

When i worked in fast food resturants in my youth people would pay in coins all time. The regular customers would have the bulk of it pre-rolled. And then there are the A holes who dump a huge pile of mixed coins on the counter. Some would count it out for you but most just stood there waiting for me to start counting. I think some people did that just to make my job harder as if working at Burger King wasn't hard enough.

yes it is hard to determine 'who owns what part of finances' in a marriage....so bit by bit it is dissected to determine who gets what when couple's split.

but there is a 'your bill' in the end when it is all said and done, and even if unhappy with it, (and who ever is lol) then just pay it and move forward.

It is always best to 'take' being wronged...just move on. But it's not always easy. But the point here was, it IS wrong. And it wasn't about splitting up the furniture, etc., although that usually turns out one sided as well.

Here's what the law says: The Coinage Act of 1965, specifically Section 31 U.S.C. 5103, states: "United States coins and currency (including Federal reserve notes and circulating notes of Federal reserve banks and national banks) are legal tender for all debts, public charges, taxes, and dues. Foreign gold or silver coins are not legal tender for debts."

All this means is that the Federal Reserve system must honor all U.S. currency. As the U.S. Treasury points out, there's nothing in the law that says that private businesses have to accept it for all transactions. If a merchant wants to sell her products in exchange for gold bullion, nothing but dimes minted before 1946, Swedish fish, or Monopoly money, that's her right under the law.
