What s great day.... Numerous 'first time' finds for me near IW fort along the river downstream. 20 ga trapdoor forager cartridge case, uniform cuff eagle button, and flat button marked 'treble gilt - stand p col' which I researched ( thanks to treasurenet.com) to be from 1820-1830. There are still traces of gilt within the lettering. This would certainly have been ( I assume) a fur trapper/trader since the military presence was not near this site until 1867. Too cool! Got me thinking about men like image.jpegimage.jpegHugh Glass ( Revenant)

Congrats on the nice buttons, and finding them in Montana at that. That's what I like to call "prairie colonial", doesn't get much older.
