YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

So. I'm getting cabin fever here. Can you believe it's so dog-gone cold here in the south? I mail Lisa yesterday and tell her that I'm going hunting tomorrow. She's like, "You know it's only going to be in the 30's tomorrow, right?" "Yep," I say. "But I don't care...if only for a few minutes, I wanna go." I mail her this morning. I say, "Ok..I'm going...what if we're missing out on digging the holy grail today?" :laughing7: So she says, "I'll pick you up at 12:30."
Now it's been pretty cold here for the last week. We've stayed in the 30's for daytime highs and 15-25 for the lows. I know, I know, not nearly as bad as my Yankee friends have to deal with, but for it to stay this cold in Alabama for this long is very unusual. I've always said that if it's below 40, I ain't going. But knowing there are NO snakes and no bugs, and the weeds and vines are at bay, not to mention the fact that I log in and see all the terrific finds being posted, I couldn't stand it any longer. Put on the thermals, extra shirt, coat, had my ears covered and double gloves.
Off we go to explore a site that we know had an old homesite on it....With hopes that the cold has withered up the tall grass there.
Get to the site and spot this gray heron taking a dip in the icy water......I won't mention what Lisa said about that poor bird being butt deep in ice water. :tongue3: :D

We go over to where we need to be and the grass is dead, but still thigh high. :-\ Makes for a very sore arm trying to squash down the grasses with the coil to be able to hunt the dirt. Wasn't there five minutes and got my one any only keeper there. Was a FOB! We stayed there for another 30 minutes or so and decided to check out another site nearby.
Same thing...dead grass, but still too high. :-\

So we work around the patches that we can get to and I manage another miners tag and a little round ball.

Was a short hunt. But I feel much better now. ;D Suppose to snow here tomorrow. I'll post you some pictures! :happy1: :laughing7:

Find something good!~

I'd like to get out, but right now it's 9 degrees with a -15 windchill.
tonight, the temp is supposed to get down to -1 with a windchill between -20 to -40

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Nana,
That FOB is very cool. Not as cool as that bird on ice, but still very cool.
Glad to see you had the nerve to get out. I made it out a bit yesterday myself.
Congrats,
MM

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

:-X BRRR! :D Thanks, ya'll! Don't think 'ole Nana will brave the cold today. Still 16 degrees here today. Not much on the snow tho. There were a few places that got a touch, but not even enough to make a snowman at my place.

Possum... I thought about the possibility of the bead being a trade bead, but I know nothing about them. I've only ever found one other one out in a field..and it was purple.

Here's a close up of the blue one....

How does one know if in fact that's what it is? :dontknow:

Brad...You covered it up!? :-\ Looks SO nice!!! I had two ponds that we made when we lived in the burbs. There was a stream between the two with a walkway going over and between the ponds and to the pool. Was packed full of koi. I had some that were the size of a good big mouth bass, down to the babies. I had noticed that they were thinning out some, but didn't know why. One evening while cleaning up the kitchen, something out the window caught my eye. On the handrail outside was the biggest ole owl I'd ever seen. In an instant he swooped down into the water and grabbed dinner. I had no idea they would go into the water, but learned quickly that indeed they will. :D I don't know how many he ended up getting over time. My daughter was visiting our neighbor from there last week and she said the owl still comes around looking for dinner. :D Now that I've moved to the country, all I have is a crick with a few little bream swimming around. Good luck hunting next week!! Suppose to be warmer. :icon_thumright:

Thanks for all that info on the company, Carl!! :hello:

haha..ddiger...You must be talking about the Coosa river. I'd sure look for it for you if I lived closer! Maybe some of our Gadsden/Anniston folks will read this and contact you about the location. :icon_thumright:

I'ma War Eagle gal, Rob! ;D But I was proud to see someone from Bama do good. Was such a shame for Colt have to leave the game tho. May have turn out differently if he had been able to play. Hearing him speak after the game, I am convinced he's an A1 guy. I hope he recovers from his injury quickly.

Thanks again, ya'll. Have a great weekend!

Nana :)

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

now you know how we ohioans feel, we may not see grass again til may. I remember hearing something about blue marbles, it may be rare. kudos on getting out. I hear part of the mississippi has ice on it. may be it will freeze up so new orleans can go ice skating.

just kidding, nice finds nana.

Great pics and way to brave the cold! I like the glass bead, just like the ones I find around here and they date around 200-300 years. HH and stay warm, LOL, Mike

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Hey Nana........great pics and a very nice watch fob! Congrats on that.....but that cold weather just seams to be gripping the US and no matter where your out detecting its coooold.....At least the grounds not frozen down there!

Keep on Digging! John

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

I feel like a whimp ! I wish I had the guts to go out and detect! Some great finds you an Lisa had a great day! :icon_sunny:

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Nice finds Nana.

That is a heat wave compared to pa. I wish it was clear and 30. I love those conditions for hunting. I got a new V3 also last week. I really want to go out and try it. Oh well it will be over soon I hope.

Take care

Jeremy

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

cool finds

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Yeah. I ain't use to that cold weather either. Got down to 17 degrees (wind chill factor)--East Texas. Yeah, I am a baby compared to those brave souls who really have it bad in the other regions of the US. But, I still go out detecting with all those extra pairs of gloves, shirts, etc.
Gotta love detecting,
apush
