YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

So. I'm getting cabin fever here. Can you believe it's so dog-gone cold here in the south? I mail Lisa yesterday and tell her that I'm going hunting tomorrow. She's like, "You know it's only going to be in the 30's tomorrow, right?" "Yep," I say. "But I don't care...if only for a few minutes, I wanna go." I mail her this morning. I say, "Ok..I'm going...what if we're missing out on digging the holy grail today?" :laughing7: So she says, "I'll pick you up at 12:30."
Now it's been pretty cold here for the last week. We've stayed in the 30's for daytime highs and 15-25 for the lows. I know, I know, not nearly as bad as my Yankee friends have to deal with, but for it to stay this cold in Alabama for this long is very unusual. I've always said that if it's below 40, I ain't going. But knowing there are NO snakes and no bugs, and the weeds and vines are at bay, not to mention the fact that I log in and see all the terrific finds being posted, I couldn't stand it any longer. Put on the thermals, extra shirt, coat, had my ears covered and double gloves.
Off we go to explore a site that we know had an old homesite on it....With hopes that the cold has withered up the tall grass there.
Get to the site and spot this gray heron taking a dip in the icy water......I won't mention what Lisa said about that poor bird being butt deep in ice water. :tongue3: :D

We go over to where we need to be and the grass is dead, but still thigh high. :-\ Makes for a very sore arm trying to squash down the grasses with the coil to be able to hunt the dirt. Wasn't there five minutes and got my one any only keeper there. Was a FOB! We stayed there for another 30 minutes or so and decided to check out another site nearby.
Same thing...dead grass, but still too high. :-\

So we work around the patches that we can get to and I manage another miners tag and a little round ball.

Was a short hunt. But I feel much better now. ;D Suppose to snow here tomorrow. I'll post you some pictures! :happy1: :laughing7:

Find something good!~

At least you all got out and found some stuff. I was beating the throne bushes down in a spot for about 3 hours today and all I got was a couple brass rivets and square nails

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

That was definitely worth it! Cool finds there pretty lady!

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Nice relics! You know there has to be more there. Just another good reason to grab a hot cup of Joe and brave those temps again.

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Way to go Nana! I know what you mean about not use to it being so cold in the South. NC is not supposed to have wind chills of -1, and the weather folks are calling for some snow tomorrow. I've been tempted to dress like the Michelin Man and head out, but I can't bring myself to leave this warm spot. Congrats on getting out and your finds. Breezie

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Fun Alabama Post. Nice finds. Those blue Herons crack me up with their prehistoric ways. Snow is on the way here in Tennessee and yes its way cold. Its all the Global warming !!
Nice pictures looks like some places we deer hunt down around Montgomery at the ole diggerhorn.
Stay warm.

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Nice to see that you are still able to get out. And you're still finding some nice items. WTG :hello2:

Us poor yankees up north would really love to be able to get out again. Man, we would love to have temps in the 30s and no snow on the ground. Currently have about 15 inches of the white stuff on the ground, with 5 to 8 foot drifts, and the wind blowing at about 50 mph. Supposed to be about 20 below tonight and make it up to 0 tommorow. I think that spring is a long time in comin. Keep the posts coming. It gives us something to do until we can get out again. :read2:

Neat FOB Nana!
I'm proud of you Gals getting out in the cold temps! :icon_thumleft:
We hunted the other day for 5 plus hours with temps in the 20's & a wind chill. :P
I can't wait for this cold spell to pass. :-X
Rob
P.S. I'm no Damn Yankee! :nono:
Myself, Being a proud "Yankee" But disgruntled about the way they conduct political affairs. I find it even difficult to see or even think about myself here digging these cold temps.

I dug year around the past 3 years in NC but, not now.

It reminds me of when I'd ice fish without a shanty.

I'll wait it out.

I'm glad you got the window to detect Nana

Re: YeeHaw! We Did It! And It Wasn't THAT Bad!

Hi Southern Belle. Looks like you got another blue marble but no tax token. I like the fob. WTG Ladies!!
Don't ever feel sorry for those Herons. I designed and personally built a Koi pond with 3 waterfalls in 2000 (see pic). We really enjoyed it but in 2007 one of those herons made a visit and killed 8 of my Koi. Keeping small fish was futile after that as the bird returned frequently and I got disgusted in 2008 and filled the pond in. One day in the early Winter of 2008 the pond was covered with about 4 inches of ice. I came out of the basement and one of those stupid Herons was standing on the ice looking down at my two remaining Koi. I was HOT.
Glad you gals got out. Dman (Burt) and I went over our new CW site list on Monday and hope to get out next week. Happy Hunting, Quindy.
