Yard hunt turns up 23 wheats, 2 IH's, Merc, Wash, and Franklin Half!

After breakfast I went and knocked on doors, first one said their daughter was detecting it the day before, no. Next one the kid says, "ok, but only in the front and sides" Game on. Three feet off the front step I'm banging wheat after wheat, thinking, "there has to be silver", bam, 1935 Merc. Next few hours I pull total of 23 wheats (looks like a few key dates, including a 1909) I'll investigate later on those. A 1936 Washington Quarter, 1898, 1899 Indian Head Cents, a advertizing token/fob for "standard Horse Shoe Co. Boston Mass erg. U. S. pat. 011" and a 1950 Franklin Half.
I loved that hunt, very little trash, lots of coins!

Enjoy the pix

WOW you did good for a random site selection. Never know what your going to find. How do you like the ctx after using for a while?
Its very nice, takes allot of the guess work out. Todays site was very free of trash and iron, which in turn I bet made it that much easier for the CTX, 3/4 s of the targets were 7"-8" deep. I haven't hit on a site like that in a very long time. Mostly coin targets are 2"- 4" deep. Every coin rang clear and four ways, the numbers varied very slightly. 12-40 on the wheats, 12-38 on the Indians, 12-48 and 1-48 on the half, 12-44 on the Merc, 12-45 or 46 on the quarter. The fob rang 12-38 or 40, I thought I was digging a penny.
Funny thing was the young couple came out, I told them I found allot of old pennies a old dime and a old quarter. We were talking and they said his brother metal detected and lived around the corner. I thought to myself, man I better hurry up before he shows up. Maybe that was why he told me not to go in the back yard, maybe the brother found the clothesline back there and he was afraid I'd find more? I don't know, just happy with what I found. I'm going back tomorrow and see if they will let me in the back yard. Maybe the brother is using a bountyhunter? or he can't hear, ha who knows. I know one thing I'd like to find that clothesline!

Wow, great assortment of coins- and that Franklin half looks to be really clean! Congrats!

Yep, I like to clean them!IMG_20141010_133633.jpg

If its silver I think it should shine!
Thanks.

Excellent hunt.

Man what a day :icon_thumright: many more to you!

Wow ! Seriously ? That is a great hunt - hard to find 1930's Washington quarters -with the depression on hard, people were squeezing those coins pretty tight . You scored a lot of silver !

That silver is sweet, that fob, the Co. dates back to the 1920's, was when they went out of business. There has to be older silver there somewhere, I had twelve pennies that were before 1920. I'm headed back there today, hope he lets me find the clothes line?

This is the next town over, not quite sure I know what you mean? Was quite a nice holder of old coins though, more than most that I have hit. Too bad the houses around here aren't 1700's.

Looks like you had a great time with that hunt. Congrats.

Thanks for supplying the ID numbers for the coins they seem on track with my Etrac's ID numbers. Good luck finding more there.

Nice finds! Did the 1909 wheat happen to be a v.d.b.?

I don't think so,I have it soaking in oil, would still have to be the s mint I believe.

Thanks guys,I went back there, the rain stopped. No one was home, I never talked to them about just popping in and hunting whenever I wanted. I'll try later tonight just before dark. I knocked on four more doors until I got a yes. I think someone got to that yard before me. I found a compact that is soaking in water. I'll go back there in morning and hunt some more
