Just look in the Redbook, the confederates only made examples of cents and half dollars, both extremely rare. Of course if you saw the movie Sahara, you might think otherwise....Kane 23

So the redbook knows it all. No reason to shoot down a guys post. I think he realizes now that it is not confederate but in my book (not the redbook) it is still a very nice find. I would love to find one.

I don't watch movies. I think it's a waste of time. I'm sure you'll have someting to say about that. :-\

Very exceptional find....WTG

I Was'nt putting anyone down, just stating some facts! Kane 23

Wow,
I'm still not sure what that is!
Is it modern, or is it a prototype of a coin that was never minted.
Has anyone ever seen any of these before?

"Facts" can sometime hurt if not stated in a nice way.

I'm really not sure either and I hope it turns out to be something special but at this particular moment I am more interested in your avatar. :D

Dang, that's a nice find even though somebody pulled a nasty trick on you...

I'm still wondering what metal it's made of??? I saw a buddy of mine pick up a Confederate coin at the city dump. It was lying right where every body unloads the big furniture items. He about had a fit when he saw what it was. I finally got him to let me see it and I saw "copy" on the back of it. It sure broke his heart when I told him and I was real surprised because I didn't know at that time that there was any coins like that ever made.

DANGLANGLEY

I saw replicas like that one for sale in one of the Civil War battlefield park offices.

I thought that Rhett Butler got away with the Confederate Treasury.

:)

still a really cool find and was still fun for you digging it

Wow, what a find :thumbsup:I would definitely keep that in my keeper box. How often would would find one of those, even if it is a copy. Congratulations!!

I bought a couple of these ten years ago at Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO. I was going to plant them at a CW campsite my brother and I were hunting....He's a big CW nut, so I thought it would be a good joke. Long story short, he ended up spotting them before I got to plant them. They now sit on his CW mantle....

With the printed 'copy' it makes it an original fantacy novelty item. What's the metal composition?

Lot's of questions...

Did you have to clean it in any way? If plated, why in such good shape IF it had been buried for a long time?
Did someone plant it to give you a heart attack? (lol...I would have had one if I had found it...not knowing squat about CW relics) Though, I know gold, and it wouldn't tarnish or turn...gold plating will look like crap, depending on how thick or thin it's been plated.
Lot's of 14k, 10 year warranted pocket watches are found in nice shape (plating still looks good)
If old, I don't think the maker would have put "copy" on it....so, I think it's real new and I believe someone planted it for you to find.
Now find them and give em a good swift kick in the rear!

Hey, good or bad, real or not; you found it and now it's yours! Have the challenge of detecting is sifting through all that junk to get the cool stuff. Doesn't matter whether itsa coin or jewlery or toys or old iron. Half the fun is finding something, the other half is finding the cool stuff you like and keep. I have a Roy Rogers token that is tops for me, although I have found some other cool stuff as well. I would have laughed if I found your copy. Sometimes other people get the joke on you.

Keep posting your finds. Sometimes we'll laugh, sometimes we'll cry...mainly because weren't the ones to find the cool thing you found! :icon_sunny:
