yamashito's treasure

am on a remote island in eastern philippines, was japanese base during their occupation in 1942... always been rumours of gold buried under the japanese bamboo clumps so we cleared last week and have started digging... At 12 feet we hit rock - a mixture of cement and fine gravel....after some blasting we are down to 16 feet and seem to have found a tunnel... found a rock with what looks like an inscription.... could be a japanese marker - see attached... any thoughts??? 12410532_1079552272085446_8816711013469482673_n.jpg

I just watched a show "myth hunters" this last week on Yamashito's gold. I'm leaning towards some kind of natural rock formation you have in your hand. Doesn't look like any intentional marker to me. Hope you find the rest of the gold. Just don't speak of it. You don't want to end up like poor Roger. :(

thanks - yeah, was not sure myself, could be natural formation.... anyway, I'm keeping quiet coz they are a wild bunch over on these islands - especially the law and army!!!

ps... are we talking "jolly roger" lol....

Could be natural but it still has the look of a Japanese symbol, and yes, keep it lowkey! Tony

just a rock . And legends/rumors of yamashito's (or any other such Japanese ) gold , is a dime a dozen . In every cave , and each one "iron clad true ". I would write them all off as superstition . JMHO .

maybe myth / legend, but not costing me money or sweat to dig (the local police chief is taking care of that) - After all this I receive 50% of gold or a nice big hole to use as a dam for my hogs!! so a win win for me....lol

Thinking your good luck may end up being bad news. Let's just say something is found, and since you posted here, a lot of folks are going to know about it.
Let's see the Chief of Police, the I'm guessing prisoner labor, to name just the folks other then you involved. Who promised you 50%?

The locals, as has been done multiple times, often get overruled by higher ups in govt. You may end up with nothing but that nice big hole. And possibly prison time and fines for disturbing a historical site.

First rule in Treasure hunting, When you find something, you keep your mouth shut.

I wish you luck, but think you may have buried yourself.

looks like some sort of volcanic rock that spent thousands of years in a river

I have friends that live in the Philippenes that found a small stash of treasure in the 50's. It was quickly confiscated along with the property where it was found. The neighbors had told on them. Tony

What a "pessimistic bunch" we have here - I thought we're all treasure hunters here, taking risks, doing exciting stuff...
Yeah I may get nothing, but good luck to anyone who tries to land on my island - we're pretty heavily armed and also very remote, around 50 islands around here...(we may do what yamashito allegedly did and bury the workers if they find the gold, lol) - Seriously though - it's just a little fun I'm having, there has been some gold bars found here and no, the higher authorities have never gotten involved - the mayor gets his cut of-course...we all are family here on these islands.....

matigas, I wish you the best. Who knows, every hunt is different and part of the treasure is "the Hunt!" Tony
