I am out this morning before the big storm hunting the river edge where I found a 1920 wheat yesterday. I'm hoping this was a swimming area at one time. There is a lot of evidence of homeless or hobo camping here but nothing real recent. Found another wheat and was just hitting another target when I see a man coming up from the river heading for me. I stopped and faced his direction and he stopped about 15 feet from me, looked at me with a fresh cigarette in his mouth and asked Ya got a light. No, no light here. He turned and walked away. I watched him until he was out of sight then went back to that target.. Found it ,popped it out of the ground and said to myself that looks like a book of matches. Peeked inside and sure enough it was............Never knew they had copper match covers. Found one more wheat and an Indian. the wheat's are 1928,1938,and 1946 the Indian isn't telling yet..The match cover has a carriage horse and driver . Hope the pics show that I know my pictures aren't that great but....Happy hunting and be careful out there Goldbill

I'm tellin' ya, the bum can have all his stuff stashed five feet away from ya and ya wouldn't know it. They do know how to hide! Anyway, :coffee2: :icon_sunny:

:read2: Just a thought but, you'll figure the encounter out later on down the line (De' Ja Vou).
Don't let it spook you just be ready to experience and receive the wisdom of insight. :notworthy:

Strange event for sure ! You be careful down there by the river ! Dave !

Hi everyone it was indeed a strange encounter... this town is in the middle of it's 10th folk festival and this brings out some really strange characters. This guy fit the description. Bangor is also the hometown of Stephen King................................ I spent the rest of the hunt with my exorcist neck going. Diggummup thanks for the pic I was hoping someone would have a better example Yours is a real beauty. We're just now getting the leading edges of Irene I imagine there are some tneters already on the beaches down south good luck,!!! Goldbill

.

Great story & finds!
They made some pretty ornate matchboxes in the day.
Found this one with attached crown setting on the surface of a rocky inland beach.
HH to ya

having dry matches would be vitally important to a hobo type person --for cooking your food , warmth in the winter -sooty fire to keep bugs at bay in warmer weather.

Rather than asking for a light, too bad he didn't ask you if you had a spare $20 gold piece!!! :tongue3:

so long as he doesn't say -- now your coming along with me.
