Xterra 50 vs F5

I can't really answer your question as I haven't had an Xterra 50, but I do have the F5. It is a great detector. Depth is good, with my personal best depth at a measured 9" (my digger has inch graduations on it so it's easy to measure). That's not to say it won't go another inch or so, but that's my deepest so far. Pinpointing is pretty much unnecessary as it's easy to do a cross pattern sweep and pinpoint the location without using the pinpoint function, but the pinpoint function will give you a depth reading too. As far as target separation, this morning I dug a coin that was sitting right beside a piece of wire from a chain link fence. I was able to hear the two signals, totally separate from each other. I was impressed with that.

I've owned a few machines over the years, including the 2 you have right now, but I can honestly say that this F5 is something else. The Golden uMax has tones, but nothing like the 4 tone mode of the F5. There is clear distinction between all tones, and also the ability to change the amount of tones you would like to use. I like the 4 tones myself.

Also, the ability to read the ground mineralization live is great, as you can keep the GB dialed in when you see a change. It's got a notch feature for eliminating unwanted ranges of targets too.

It's also got something else. It's just down right fun to use. Although I've enjoyed most of the machines I've had, some more than others, the F5 brings the biggest smile to my face when I use it. I'm not sure why, but it's a joy to use.

The F5 rocks! Lots of info available at all times and any changes can be made on the sweep! I have a lot of machines and I find myself using the F5 most of the time.....it's just a fun machine to use!

Thanks for your replies. Dan I don't like the tones on the G umax either, as you said, they don't have enough tonal separation.

I've been a Tesoro fan for quite a while, but I have to admit that the F5 beats them all.

I'm for the F5 also. And like said, it is just a fun machine to hunt with. Dave Johnson of FT is great at packing a punch at a great price. If you don't want to fool with the sensitivity/threshold learning curve, the Omega 8000 is the same machine with less knobs.
