It's been awhile since my last post when I was heading back to the cabin for Labor Day to check out some more foundations. Unfortunately my parents had other things for me to do around the cabin, and metal detecting wasn't one of them. So I came home the Sunday before Labor Day because my cousin called and said he got permission to hunt an 1865 Farm House yard. To my surprise we dug very little junk and mostly coins. I got a 1920 and 1941 mercury and a couple wheat pennies, but no 1800's to my surprise.
So the past couple of weeks I've only been able to do research and no swingin', but this morning I had a little bit of time to get out. I focused on an area where the union canal used to run. My first signal I dug was a 1979 penny and thought it's gonna be one of those days. My next target about 15 minutes later a a solid penny dime reading at 4.5 inches. The rest might sound a little like a Kirkpa find. I saw a seated lady on the coin and did a double fist pump. It was an 1840 seated dime, my first seated coin and it beat my oldest silver coin by 58 years. The area was heavily vegetated and I didn't have a lot of places to swing so as soon as the weeds die I will be back..
