XLT in wet grass

I borrowed a coil from a friends XLT and got out yesterday morning. Despite arriving at 6:30 am, the grass was bone dry. I did notice that the ground balancing problem I had was gone. My xlt gb'd first time every time, which has never happened before. I also usually use a vibra probe pinpointer and have always had to move the coil far away from it when it was in used to avoid the xlt from going crazy. My buddy asked me to give his White's pinpointer a try and compare to mine and I noticed it did not interfere with the xlt at all. All this leads me to believe that my coil is in fact defective. There's hope yet........

Got a brand new coil in the mail yesterday. Hopefully I can test it out in the next day or two.

Well, got the new coil in over the weekend set out to test it yesterday. What an ordeal it turned out to be. Drove about 40 miles to a park which had a major event on Sunday to find out they had it closed to the public for clean up. So I decided to head back to a local park. I guess I fell victim to some gas shiphoning and ran out on the highway. Luckily I was able to coast to an exit and right up to the pump of an Exxon (where I normally refuse to buy gas, but that's another story).
Anyway, I finally got to check out the brand new coil White's sent and it worked flawlessly.
the xlt never failed to ground balance and I was finding targets much deeper then with the old coil.
I hunted a couple of hours and came away with a lot of clad, including a golden dollar and very nice Gerber pocket knife.
Looks like problem was a bad coil after all.

Well hot diggidy dang > Glad you got it all sorted out. Once I got my DFX 300, I went back and am now hitting all the spots I did with my defunked XLT. What a differance. I'm sure you will now find all the things you missed and so much more. :occasion14: Cheers, now show us all the great finds. Take care and lots of luck and HH.
