WWl 40th Infantry Dog Tag PVT. Herman.

It's rough, but I could make out the last name. The 40th field artillery was organized in 1918 at Camp Custer. The fort is still in operation just a short distance from where I found it. Additionally, a number of buttons, bullets, casings, clips and period barber dimes have been turning up during my searches. Happy to have saved it. 😀

The original pic was incomplete....better pics here, tons of spent ammo, dud bullets, blank rounds crimped with no projectile and stripper clips in the ground surrounding this object. Hmmm 🤔

I believe that is a catch for an old mortise door lock.
