WWII German Bullet found in America

Hey guys, I’m new to the forum but I’ve been reading here awhile and wanted to share my finds! I decided to go to a creek that’s about 5 miles from a military base in hopes of finding some tossed relics. I got more than I expected lol.

I pulled up a few old ammo boxes at first and then some dummy rounds for a 50 cal. I kept going, and eventually pulled up a rifle bullet. At first I didn’t recognize the markings (p181 12 37 s*) but I decided to research it and discovered it’s a German bullet made in Lipseig, Germany in 1937! This was quite the surprise to find a German round in a US creek. Perhaps it’s a souvenir from the war, or maybe evidence to a dump site of seized German ammo from the War? I have no idea but it’s my best find so far.

The next thing I pulled up ended my trip, as I had to call in the bomb squad for this one. It was a WWII Tank Shell that was later confirmed to be Live! The bomb squad took care of it... but I still haven’t decided if I should go back one day

Cool finds! Back in the 1980’s I recall buying German surplus 8mm ammo for my K98, they had all sorts of different country’s surplus, they had Pakistani .303, Egyptian 8mm etc, a hunter probably dropped it, that’s my guesss

2nd - DANG - a live WWII Tank Shell! Remind me never to go magnet detecting with you!

Thanks for the welcome! That’s an interesting theory about it being surplus ammo! But given the location of the creek, it’s mainly accessed by military personnel... plus there’s no surplus for live tank rounds

Thanks Blk Hole! I also found a decorative shell tip or inert replica on the other side of the bridge. It’s hollow and weighs about 45lbs, painted army green, made of iron. It Looks like something you would see Used for decoration at a ww2 museum. Any thoughts?
