Mom had relatives in Germany during the war. After the war an Uncle went over to visit them. When he got back he was telling my Dad about this interesting little car that got really good gas mileage, and he thought it would probably be something that might take off when people learned about it over here. He'd gone so far as to talk to the people over there, and if Dad would go in with him, he'd get the west coast dealership for the car. My Dad turned him down, said "Nobody will ever buy anything from Germany again." The idea was dropped at that point. The car they were talking about was a VW, and just for the record, Dad ended up driving one a few years later.

Here ya go

Very nice German army dagger. I find German war trophies very interesting. I often wonder how many things brought home by our servicemen have been thrown away over the years by folks who don't understand why they were brought home.

Put all your important things in a safe place. You can't replace them if their gone. I thought I didn't have anything worth much until it was stolen. Then you realize what it's value was worth and how important it was to you. Don't say, It never happens here. Think of how you and others would feel if it was gone. I dislike thieves. Nice sword. Would be interested in seeing other pictures that aren't disturbing. I'm sure Charlie is looking over you and happy now. Enjoy and remember the good times everyone had with him. Sorry

I joined the Navy when 17, ended up in amphibious force. Picked LST in Pittsburgh. Was in Normandy invasion, Southern France and Okinawa. Lots of memories, not all good but that's life. Some day Charlie and I will meet and maybe we can swap stories. Love metal detecting, been at it for around fifty years, built my first one from plans in a book. Like the saying goes, "You've come a long way baby." Wife passed away last Dec so I am back detecting, she liked it too. Had many good times detecting, especially on the Gulf coast, Padre Island. Thanks for the thread.
