We should never forget our history - all raw and ugly as it is.

My generation was raised by the generation that lived and saw what horrors man is capable of. I VERY seldom heard any of the WWII veterans speak of what happened. There was no PTSD then, just buckle-up and live with it.

My scoutmaster, family friend, church member and neighbor was on the USS South Dakota and one night at a campfire when the older camp staff was winding down he told us of what he saw when evacuating US POWs; and of the Kamikaze attacks and Island hopping it took to get there. That was the only time he ever spoke of the war in my presence and I think he just needed to get it out. His opinion was we should have left Japan devoid of life while we still had Uranium to expend. And this from a guy who would give you the shirt off his back.

Just lost him two months ago.

But in the "What is it" forum might not be the best place. Perhaps General Discussion?
