WW2 Dog Tag Found in Fox hole on Guam. Help me build a profile.

Here is his headstone.

The 3rd Marine Regiment (infantry), 3rd Marine Division
Maybe a group of vets still active and possible info.

Gallatin County News is the newspaper of Warsaw, KY. Maybe contact a reporter there, Bourbon and/or Louisville? Great feel-good story just waiting to hit the press!

Russ

Great idea! I just sent a message. I don't have access to most of the sites that have the information that might lead to a living relative.
Thank you!

Here's a thought:

If anyone is near the Zarchary Taylor Nat'l Cemetery, perhaps they'd let you see the OQMG Form 315. On page 1, post #5 there is an interment card that specifies this form was returned buy next of kin. The OQMG (Office of the Quarter Master General) Form 315 would have some good info on there. Seeing how this is pretty old and wanting to return property, perhaps a sympathetic clerk may help.

Good for you in your quest to return his tags! Perhaps the Local VFW can help. Looing forward to updates.

I contacted the newspaper for help but nobody was interested in helping. For now the best info I have on locating a relative is what has been posted here.
Still looking. Hopefully I will be able to find a next of kin but it looks grim at the moment

His father was Henry Francis Dale. Born 1897.

He had an older brother Charles Breckenridge Dale. Born 1921. Died 1997.
I APPLAUD you for your research and thank you 111

History usually only remembers the name of the higher ups in the military.

Really cool of you to put the effort in to make a soldiers history continue on. Maybe some day some relative will stumble across this thread with a google search.

Yes people are strange. I have returned items to people in the past with the same results. But for me, the story ends and its up to the family to do as they wish with the item.

Its been some time since I found any info on Pvt Dale. A few days ago I posted pictures of a few ww2 relics I had and, in that post I mentioned the dog tag. By chance, a young Marine stationed in NC saw my post and hit me up on messenger. Below are some of the things he found.
We now have a picture of the cemetery he was initially buried in on Guam before he was taken back to Kentucky after the war.
He joined the Marines only 1 month after his 17th birthday and very soon after basic training was given a summery court marital for sleeping on watch. Not the best way to start a military career but a minor infraction that would not have hurt his career.
Although we know he died of his wounds, it was interesting to find out he was shot in the chest. This was also his first time in combat.

Considering all the information gathered in this thread over the past couple years, I feel certain PFC Dale does not have any close living relatives. That said, I will consider distant relatives and other options if necessary.

Yes. The American Legion for that area should have some idea. Also, I’ve always considered “soldier” and Army term. It could cause confusion when dealing with the USMC. I strongly applaud your efforts. I pray that you are successful. Good luck! 🇺🇸

Have you been in touch with any of his relatives ?
