Could it be part of a animal joint bone ?

My eyes are not as good as they once were. Could that be part of a ball joint on a bone ?

Sorry, all I am seeing is a case of pareidolia. Would help if the pictures were in focus, both are out of focus even more so when blown up.

Curious, what indicates it was done recently?

Outlined area appears fresh, unlike the rest of the stone that shows weathering and darkening.
