I remember going through a coin collecting book a long time ago, and I saw some pennies like that. I don't really remember what the stamps were specifically, but some of them were pretty valuable because they were stamped at the mint, and there were very few of them. At least that's what I remember. Is that a stamp or is it raised?

These were never done at the mint. There are uncirculated examples from private companies getting new pennies from the mint and then stamping them.

i once dug a lincoln penny that i kid you not is got the date 1876, only thing I was able to make out of anything that someone was trying to counterfeit a penny or was messing around... the strangest things that pop up i tell yah! that is my WTH penny of relic hunting..
