looking for a used detector for my 25 year old son,just wanted to see whats out there,i have about $450.00 shipped to spend on him.HE WILL BE A NEWBIE.

I would go with a Whites mxt. There is one for sale in the for sale section around your price range.

Everyone is going to have there own thoughts about what to buy. The MXT as suggested is a good all around detector, but it has a slight learning curve more than some. Consider that he may really get into it and may want additional accessories. Also you may think about the weight of the detector if he has any physical limitations. $450, can definitely get a person going. Your going to be better spending more for a detector in his experience range then go cheaper and then his learning and desire surpasses the detector's options and capability.

I started out with the MXT, its not bad at all to pick up on and you can detect with people with any other detector and not be outgunned. I can hit targets as deep as others with the V3i and E-trac, and there are alot of coil choices for that detector and if he would ever want to get a V3i they will use the same coils. HH
