I found this thing the other day and I am guessing it is a wrench but not sure of it's use or age.

Seems a little short for that - I would expect a hydrant wrench to be much longer for better leverage on stuck hydrant fittings.looks like a fire hydrant wrench

What sizes are the jaw and socket ? 5/8" 1/2" something like that ?
Other civil war items have been found here but have been limited to buttons, so far. The site dates from the early 1800s to around 1900.Cool looking wrench FF1. Was this found in an area where CW relics were found? Looks like it's pretty old. I wonder if this could have been a wagon wrench as suggested, or if it could have been some sort of artillery wrench.

yes it does look like a clevis wrench for farm equipment.
