I have to say this is the best day detecting yet. Went to a new spot and got in to an old house site was finding just random brass 1918 mercury couple wheaties. And then it happened my son diggerkid jumps up all excited saying he found a gold coin so I go check it out and sure enough gold coin, now it's getting serious. His looks like it was in a fire no detail but it's still gold. 20190203_142119.jpg 20190203_142119.jpg20190203_142043.jpg
Now we start hunkering down in this spot and I get a solid 70s on the dues I dig down about 6inches and out pops gold. I think to myself no way but staring back at me is an 1861 2 1/2 dollar in beautiful condition. 20190203_142147.jpg20190203_142137.jpg20190203_142035.jpg20190203_142022.jpg20190203_142008.jpg20190203_141926.jpg
We hunted around more after but didn't find much else.
What is the best way to clean it, so far I've just ran water over it.
Thanks for looking

Not only find a gold coin but your son finds one also. PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATZ..... Banner.......

Y'all have in one day torn it up. Now, go back and wear it out! No telling what else you'll find out there to torture us with. A big ol' congrats!

As far as a cleaning suggestion... personally I would only run under hot water with good water pressure and see if comes clean.

Dry by dabbing with soft cloth... place in coin card if you have one,.. if not a baggy until you can get one.

DO NOT RUB coin in any way... even if wet... use nothing like brush etc.

Gold is soft and will scratch if gain(s) of sand exist,,, even if micro sand granules that are not visible to naked eye.

Wow double gold coins that's unreal, congrats. One of these days I'll be posting my first gold coin find

Thanks for the tips, I know the guy that was with us was dying to rub the coin on his pants to clean the dirt off. Needless to say i won’t gonna let that happen

If high Kt gold, use lemon juice for 2 minutes & use a soft bruch under water to rinse it off.

Wow! Super awesome! That coin looks like it was dropped right after it hit circulation! Congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Amazing! Congrats to the both of you! So cool you both got one just too bad the one has been in a fire.
