I will tell you i just got an atpro and love it. It is waterproof up to ten feet, and seriously gets great depth and separates trash pretty well too. Now i only have experience with one other detector, but i love the atpro so far. Another one to look at would be the whites mxtpro, but is about 200 more, and not waterproof. I know the mxt has a gold prospecting mode, and i have read that it does pretty good for not being a full gold detector. The atpro is very light, and some people complain about the weight of whites detectors, but i guess that depends on your physical ability.

Tesoro Tiger Sharks are great fresh water detectors and are light enough for shoreline hunting. I have used mine on extremely trashy beaches and it does a great job of separating out targets In the water it will pick up the tiniest pieces of gold. And it comes with that great Trsoro lifetime warranty.

I have a AT Pro and don't like it one bit. I am more used to detectors with advanced audio and no meter to lie to me. Course I could cover it with duct tape. I suggest you look into the Fisher 1280 which can be had for a lot less.

If you are interested in a White's MXT, let me know. I am trying to sell it right now. $480 plus free shipping. It is 9 out of 10 for condition. Comes with the Eclipse 950 Coil and White's headphones & manual. Good night!!!

If you want something light and that works really well check the Detectorpro wader, it is a modified fisher 1280x and it's as light as a feather.

The Fisher 1280 was designed for fresh water and doesn't really like the salt. The Detectorpro Wader is a modified version and does seem to have been worked on and can be used in fresh or salt conditions.
