✅ SOLVED I bought this entrenching tool/pickaxe at an estate sale today and I’d like an ID on it?

IM GOING TO USE IT FOR METAL DETECTING*. I am just curious because I googled it and it says it’s a Canadian military entrenching tool and could be ww2 era, I just don’t know enough about it so any help would be appreciated! Also it was only $4!

Lol, it it were Olive drab greene, and had the Ames brand name, I have dug many fighting positions and foxholes with one identical in the Army.
Used as my primary metal detecting tool for years. The good ole entrenching tool.

This is what a typical WWII Canadian Entrenching tool looks like. Yours looks similar to a US one (Folding blade and pick) but with the label and color I'd say a commercial copy

Thanks! That makes more sense with the old sticker tag label lol. I just know very little about these tools so I’m glad I could learn a thing or two! (I do have a legit 1945 American army green one from my grandfather though!)

You can tell any of the U.S. Military ones easily by the markings on it.
It will be marked with date of issue... and the manufacturer.

Ps ... there were several styles of these... i think i have owned every single one made at one time or another... and still do own at least one or two still.
Oh... and i think i still own the small pickaxe... no shovel to that one though.

Word of caution...

You can severally damage an item with these so take care and pay attention when you dig.
MAke sure you hone in on targets potential spot before striking in.

That faded label looks familiar to me. I think that’s an old K-Mart label.😉
