Well I recently tried to give Whadifind some cheery advice on staying positive and then I had a weekend of well... the opposite of positive :BangHead: We got hit with a winter storm that left 3-5 inches of snow with cold enough temperatures that there was really only two options the beach or the woods. I went to the beach with the Silver Bandit. The winter winds and tides had stripped back most of the beach sand down to this hard clay that we were sure would contain some good stuff. The bandit merrily chugged away finding coins...old coins. I struggled to find anything. With chirps all over the place and often no targets once I dug. I ended up finding 29 cents in clad. Had to call it a day with little to show for it. Yesterday I had a chance to get out for a couple hrs and it's a good thing because that's all I could take. I went to the woods. My tried and true woods. No one there but me and the owl. I found an old spoon, froze my hands, and had the battery in my pinpointer go. At the very end I dug this pin. My first thought was really old (I wanted it to be 1812!) but then I figured it was probably a little more modern. From what I gather it's a WWI Bronze pin. It's listed as a victory pin, patriotic pin, honorable discharge pin. I'm not sure what it is but I think it's WWI. It's not spectacular but it felt good to find one thing. The owl hooted his goodbye and I left the woods knowing I'll be back again to try to get them to give up one more treasure.

yes, WW1 Honorable Discharge lapel pin

Nice post. I can definitely relate to that story, and have had plenty days like that (except for the owl :laughing7:). Glad you lucked out with an interesting keeper. I love military items, and find so few myself. Congrats and good luck out there. Hopefully this Saturday's snow ends up as rain.

Interesting, xcopperstax! I wonder if all soldiers received those pins? My grandpa was a WW1 vet and we have most of his army stuff but I have never seen a pin like that.

I don't know much about military pins but I hadn't seen it before and it's such a small item it would be easy to lose or misplace. Maybe your granpa had one?

Yeah I don't find a ton of military stuff either but we both know there's a lot of it out there. Thanks. It only takes me one find to make the day. This one saved it. We can hope for rain!!! Do the rain dance!
