respect to my late great granddad who's thing I saved from being lost. Im not sure what it is just curious, if it was some sort of reward? regardless, it will be a personal treasure. thanks guys

thank you for bringing this important and wonderful relic.I have now researched the uss pennsylvania and surely would not have otherwise.Your grand dad would surely be proud at your interest.I am proud of the amazing service he and his shipmates rose to.Dam....hold your head high...this is what we as a country stand for.

at this point in the investigation we can surmise these things....the item isnt govt.issue.the ship he served on was involved in many historical missions and actions.He was not,BIG on celebrating his service.
I submit this guess....the item was commisioned by a veteran group,likely in advance of a reunion or the like.Being a humble man he simply accepted the item and stowed it.It is a comercially made item.
add it all up and I say that I wish he was my neighbor or friend.A great man

the 7 digit number towards the top is known as his ' billet number ' that is similar to a social security number. you have heard if captured give only name ,rank, serial number !! well the billet number was his serial number
