I know some dont give a rats a.. about worked flakes but I found quite a few today and decided to take a pic of them to show what they look like to the ones that dont know what they are.
These type of tools were made and used as quickie tools. Made on the moment for a quick clean of a kill and then just left behind because they were so easy to make. Most flake or Debitage tools dont get noticed by most collectors because they are only worked along the edges.
Hope somebody enjoys these, thanks rock

Hey Rock thanks for the heads up.These are from this year and were outside in a bucket. They are the little worked tools we all see and grab. Also a good thumb scraper . I have jars and buckets of these they make great study items. I am really liking that second pic and that thumb scraper is a good one I had not really looked at yet. :tongue3: Thanks for making me stop and look, whew. ???.. Good post Rock !

Those are some nice ones. So often these tools are not given the respect that they deserve. I'm guilty of picking these up, only to have them fall in the floor of my truck. They normally end up broken by the foot. They would get vacuumed up, If I were a clean truck type guy. I'm going to start putting these in jars as well. Good idea!

They had been in the bed of my truck for a long time N.C lol. If Rock had not said something I would not be sitting here admiring them. I am bad about it it also. I am enjoying seeing everyones. They are easy to miss those ole expedient expendable tools. They were as vital as any stone tool. Some are works of art in their own right in my humble opinion.

This is some good stuff for us newbies... Thanks for sharing.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one that hauls rocks in the bed of my truck. Lol! I'm sure I could get better gas mileage with out the extra weight.

Made outta flake.

Add another one to the list of people who travel with a quarry in the back of a pickup. Rocks of all shapes and sizes in the bed of my truck. Lots of them. I also build flower gardens and other landscaping projects with various types of stone...so I have a wide selection of rocks at any given time.

I'm still learning here...if the edge of the flake appears worked does it mean that it was a tool or just likely a piece that was fiddled with and then never completely formed or finished? Here are a couple that piqued my interest enough to pick up but I didn't know what category they fell into.

Man! I'm starting to feel normal. My parents will be glad to know that a whole community of us exist. Well... My mom any way, pops is one of us. I've flower bedded out. I'm starting on my next project. That will be building a structure that dwarfs the great pyramid.lol!

Pickaway is that a scraper or a pendant of some sort. I can see its an artifact, but not sure exactly what type. Nice any way!

@ TnJoe I would say flake tools due to the secondary flaking on the edges. If there is no flaking along the edges then it would be Debitage flakes or reduction flakes from making a tool.
@ TnM that 3rd one is sweet!

The flakes usually came off very sharp, and were used till dull. The slight re-touching you see is either re-sharpening for knife use, sometimes the chipping was to blunt and sharpen the end so to speak for thumb scraper type uses,. Thats how I see it anyway.

@ quito, the pic above could be first to second stage flakes which would be thicker pieces removed from the mother stone. I call those reduction flakes because they usually are thicker and yes usually made into scrapers.

@ pickaway, that is a sweet looking one almost like a Turtle back scraper. I have found some made from small cobbles but still have some cortex left on the top.

Found these 2 yesterday and I was happy to see they werent broken.

Here are some of our finds that we think may be scrapers or tools of some sort. I am dying to get out to the creeks today but it is a rainy day here in central Missouri 😔
