All of a sudden i saw green cash in a roll on da ground. :headbang: Well she walked up and said are you going to check the coinstar. Nope i replied i found green in da aisle. Anyway she asked why are you in such a good mood all of a sudden. Wait till we get home i will show you.:headbang: Well i reached in my back pocket and threw da cash on the table. Came out to $51 and she felt bad for the person that lost . Well pilgrams she took $10 from me so she aint that sorry. :laughing7:

Nice find! :icon_thumright:

No machine, pin pointer, digging tool and no cold temperatures ...sweet! :headbang:

I'm conflicted on this one because of a very recent incident that happened to me and my fiancé. We were meeting at a local winery with my siblings to celebrate my dads birthday. I had been suffering financially because of a huge pay cut so my fiance footed the bill for our evening out.
Before we arrived she handed me some bills which I stuffed into my pocket. Long story short, I lost the cash then was mortified to learn that she handed me five twenty-dollar bills. Somehow that cash had worked its way out of my pocket and landed on the floor. I remember several guys that were standing very close to my chair as I was sitting. I'm sure one of them used his foot to shuffle the money towards him to pick it up.
In my case it was obvious who the money belonged to, in your case it was not but since you found that cash in a store there is a good chance the person who lost it may have inquired about it at customer service.
In fact, just last week as my fiance was again paying for our weekly groceries at Walmart, I spotted several bills laying on the floor between two registers. I picked them up then asked the customer at that particular register if they were hers and she said no. I gave them to the cashier who in turn gave me a puzzled look like I was crazy.
I'm not trying to give a lesson on civic responsibility because I have found cash and other valuables many times and kept it, but usually after attempting to find the rightful owner.
I can't help but wonder if the money you found belonged to a child who was Christmas shopping.

Returning a mistake to a teller or cashier is the norm for me. And, I'll try to find the unfortunate person who lost currency indoors........it stands to reason that an indoor loss in a busy location is recent. Outdoor finds are mine........there's no way of telling how long a bill may have been blowing in the wind or from what direction............

i thought about turning it in but i also dont trust clerks. they have pockets also :dontknow:

A normal person would've totally missed that! Normal people walk around looking at the sky and birds, while most of us detectorists tend to walk around looking at the ground. Aren't you glad you're not normal? Good score! Merry Christmas!!

This happened to me years ago. Walked into a restaurant with my family, saw "Green" on the floor on the way to our table...$100 bill!!

Of course I was excited, too excited and started talking to loudly about my find. The couple behind us appeared to be eavesdropping. I had mentioned to receptionist I had found some money in case anyone asked, not the amount. When they went to pay their bill he exclaims..."Oh! I lost my $100 bill!" Being who I am, I returned it, but it never felt right! I think I got scammed out of that find!

I found a 100$ in a gas station parking lot I asked a guy at the pumps if he lost any money he hadn't no one else was around so it went to the vacation fund

Agreed.......I would inform the store manager that "a sum" of loose bills were found and in my possession and leave my name and number with the manager. If someone would inquire about any lost cash, they would have to know the amount lost. The store manager would then contact me with the amount, if stated correctly, it would be returned.............

Shame, shame, shame on you. Can ya loan me 30 bucks ?

If you ever find money on the floor at Wal-mart keep it unless you saw who lost it.I have friends who work there and you may think GEE I'll be nice and give it to the cashier they work hard for little pay.Well they don't get to keep it,It gets turned in and goes into the cash box as profit for the store.Yeah maybe it was someones Christmas money or maybe someones grocery money but unless you saw who dropped it don't lose any sleep over not turning it in.The way I see it is you were in need and it found it's way to you.

ok i wasnt going to post this but i did give some to a young homeless woman. Made my wife cry. :dontknow:

I for one agree with you. I will try to return money or anything else of value when found in a store or public location. Just the way I was raised.

True! And not just Walmart. You'd be surprised how many stores use the found money to make up shortages in the tills when they count down. I worked loss / revenue protection for a lot of years. We had a Customer Service Manager on tape receiving "found property" $67. Called her into our office at the end of the day. Asked her where the money went. She stated "the lost & found." Told her the lost & Found wasn't located in her back pocket. Played the tape back & wrote her up and warned her. Management fired her anyway to set an example for the rest. McDonalds stores does this a lot. They put the money in an envelope in the safe for a few days. After that the managers use it to make up shorts too. Drop your change in the cute little bins at the drive thru window? You could guess so I won't say much there.

honestly, I'd pick it up, hang around the area for a little while and if anyone comes looking, if not keep it. From the LP side, it's going into someone's pocket, it may as well be the finders.

Remember, in a store with good LP agents & good camera operators we see you!

If I see someone drop property, be it money or their wallet, I will immediately bring it to their attention. If I eyeball cash on the floor in a store, I will certainly pick it up, but in NYC you don't go around announcing that your just found some money. If a sign gets posted about money or property being lost on a certain date, and location, then in all probability, the eyeball find will go back to that person.

A couple of stories come to mind.

One of my friends took $500 out of an ATM at a large public University about 10 years ago, put it in an envelope, and promptly dropped it on the pavement. He called the police, and they were like, "yeah, good luck with that, buddy." Can you believe someone turned it in, and he was able to recover it?

I once found a $20 in an ATM at a bank near another University. i turned it in to the teller. Nobody came looking for it in 24 hrs., so they gave it to me. Not bad.

In the OP's case, there's not any way to try returning it, IMHO. Rolled up money on the ground... did any crackheads happen to lose $51 somewhere around here? Don't all raise your hands at once. LOL. Good score, and have fun spending it on holiday expenses!
