Instead of heading to an old park yesterday. I decided to try and hook-up with a friend of mine. He's been after me to come over and detect his yard but between him being busy and me being lazy it didn't happen till yesterday. I brought my spare detector for him to use , but he wanted to watch and learn first. His house sits on a little over an acre of property. We hit the backyard in a few spots first and dug a lot of scrap metal but I did manage to find a 1944 wheatie. It's in pretty bad shape like most the wheaties I've dug around here. We went to the front yard and the very first hit was a 1939 merc dime in really good condition. I also dug another war nickel a 1945 also in great shape. Found a damaged ring, says 925 on the inside. And I dug a first timer dogtag. And of coarse a lot of odds and ends. A key, bullet, car, an ear-ring. My friend was pretty impressed with my DFX and my ability to be right about the target most the time. I taught him some basics about how to swing the detector, pinpoint, and dig a proper hole. It was pretty funny. He kept telling me I have a bigger shovel in the shed. lol. I told him to leave a place cleaner, but also like you were never visibally there. Meaning cover your holes and don't do any damage to the grass. I think my friend is hooked because I'll be meeting him at his folks place, that also sits on over an acre of property this next weekend . Weather permitting. It was built in the 20s and he said as a kid he'd find old coins just playing in the dirt.
