WooHoo!!! I've been waiting a long time to dig this button!!

I'm still shaking a bit!..... I've been hunting a fur trade site for awhile and have been dreaming of finding a Hudsons Bay Co button for a long time. Today was my day!! Finds were slim, but it was a day of quality, not quantity!! :headbang:

It was getting dusk when I took these pics, so they're not perfect.

Here's the button I've been waiting for.........

A close-up.....It doesn't do it justice.......Backmarked "FIRMIN & WESTALL"

Another find from today that would have normally been the killer find of the day......I knew what it was as soon as I saw the glass stone poking out of the dirt.........An early fur trade ring!!

Here it is with the dirt knocked off! :icon_thumright:

What a way to end the detecting season......Winter is supposed to be here this week according to the weather man.. :-[

It would probably be as close as I get to finding one.

Gotta love it when "THE" button comes out and the condition is there. Coin shooter who? What? huh.

Now that's one beautiful button. And the one you wanted. How much better can it get? Any historical info on them, like rarity, year, etc?

Re: WooHoo!!! I've been waiting a long time to dig this button!!

I really can't think of a better find to make out your way, that button is as good as it gets. Is it pewter?, if so, I can't believe the shape its in. And your trade ring looks to be in great shape as well. Way to go on the great hunt before the snow starts flying.

Congratulations Rob. It is beautiful! Can you tell us U.S. guys some ore about it; why it was worn; who was it made for, things like that? Again, it is really nice! :icon_thumright:

I love the button ! I would like to hear a little more about the Hudson Bay Co. I must say that the ground has been good to you. That thing is in amazing condition. Still have the back shank?

What a beautiful button and one rich in your country's history! :hello2: My curiosity was picqued about the button, first off the age and since the backmark is identical to one just posted on What is it, I knew right away that according to Tice it was manufactered 1797-99 era. The "Pro Pelle Cutum," -a skin for a skin - was the motto of the Hudson Bay Company.

Congratulations on a super find of a button and in great shape also.
