Your second picture is upside down... it says:

WOODMAN OF THE WORLD GOLDEN ANNIVERSARY 1890 - 1940

I have no idea who the dudes on the other side are...

Hey Jim,, Why do you think the second pic is upside down???
Look at the axe on the right, there are 2 axes, left & right, and the big thing between them looks like a tree trunk
Her's a pic turned upside down,
Hope you can see what I am talking about
Guess I'm just bored :help: :BangHead:

Because it's a stump... there is a sledge hammer and an axe leaning against the stump, a common WOW theme.

Also... because of this... LMAO

FYI, another thing is if you see a cemetary with some old headstones that look like tree stumps-chances are they were probably members.

I'm pretty sure the Woodsmen organizations was a kind of group insurance deal. Monty

Quite a few years ago, I dug up a pewter ring here in lower Michigan. In a park that dates back to the late 1800's. The ring has many raised symbols on it, I researched it, and found it to be a W.O.W. ring, the symbols correspond to a "totem" that is outside a cemetery in the upper penninsula of michigan. On the headstones of the graves are these symbols, representing the ranks that these members had reached in the organization. And whoever said that it was an insurance organization is correct...........Notgittinenny

I was glad to read this topic. I dug up one of these with a detector years ago, at a park in Tucson, Arizona. It was in great shape, but had much patina from laying there so long. I think it had been in the ground for about 30 or 40 years. I always wondered if it had much value.
