I like the idea of being able to cook/bake off grid. We are thinking of moving a ways off grid. A friend is in the (legal) marijuana business and I could be close and provide security/software budtender and inventory management. Also any water power and greenhouse issues, I have been thinking about it ALOT as the market is booming. Good easy money! :headbang:

A friend got into it.
Ended up many miles /hours from home where he had started with an indoor grow and then greenhouses out back.

Cops and seizures. Forfeiture law was their incentive. Of course my friends ex was giving them reasons to find reasons once on site. And civil forfeiture doesn't have to be based on an actual illegal activity or violation. You want it back then take "us" to court.
And they know how much to seize to not make it worth my friends cost to fight it...
Maybe that's part of why his current operation is far from home.

Too many grows now. State broke licensing into multiple areas. Something like...Grow. Process. Deliver. Dispense. Costs and regulations for each. A money grab in my opinion if trying to do it all yourself.
Which brings us to the big grows....And oh boy. Yes my friend visited big grows in California early on. And when it was almost legal here the bids to start businesses came out of the woodwork. With some tremendous money involved.
When getting in line to get a license and presenting your case to a jurisdiction started they wanted you to have facilities in hand already? And they were doing it. Aquiring properties when a community announced a permiot or permits would become available. Waiting in line with competitors to plead their case.
Then having to get rid of the property when you didn't get chosen.
A friend sold his muck farm (I used to goose hunt) to a prospective grow. For serious money.
When that didn't happen (see above reason) it got split up.


That led to ....Well money money money. You got the money and resources you can ask for a permit. No that doesn't mean you get one.

Friend took a well earned vacation. First in quite a while. Had he asked my permission or approval I'd have asked who's in charge of his business. That cost him 60,000 in cash and a chunk of product due to a drunk employee and a truck.

He 'd offered me varmint control position before he started.
I didn't want the attention from authorities.
And I met most of his crew. Good folks. Not nervous as I about what could go wrong though.

Of course some youths tried to rob some plants.
Elsewhere in rented space (no one I knew) walls were breeched /cut through.

Some places/communities around here have multiple dispensaries. They get to choose. The communities that is. How many.
See the three dollar stores? Ya I don't get it either. It would suck to be the first and watching more arrive beyond any perceived need of competition to prevent a monopoly.

I don't notice (or study) enough traffic to inspire investing in one.
That's in part after backtracking the process...And my friends 100% commitment to the experience...He's been at it a while. And studied it well in advance and continues to learn and observe.
I cautioned about an Invester asking him to mortgage his home (on family historic ground) to throw in the pot to acquire facilitates. By stating I wouldn't put my home up for collateral and risk losing it. I didn't ask if he did.

Respectfully , I don't think he's rich.
He is a grower. His green thumb extends far beyond hooter. Always has.
And I'm delighted he's his own boss now.
But it's work. And scrutiny by more than the legal authorities. Amid very real competition at the mercy of changing regulations at who's whim?
Reminding me that money is being made by people not actually performing . let alone sticking their necks out in risk .simply because money is being made.

Luckily he is licensed, has all the permits legal to grow, and distribute to dispensaries in Oregon. Everything in green houses.

Ok, this is a little related but all this talk brings back some funny memories.
In the 1980s here my misses worked in a shop in Melbourne that sold bongs and everything associated with green for several yrs. But no actual green. I still have some Freak Brothers comics to this day. Ill hunt them up.
There was numerous product trials.....🤣
Oh were they funny days or what. 😂

Good morning everyone. Spent the last two days sitting around doing nothing because of circumstances beyond my control. Today, back to work, where I still sit around, but at least I'm doing something.
