I answered your post on the "What is it" category. Asian ebony is a very dense wood and can easily be mistaken for another material by someone who doesn't work with exotic woods. I've worked with it a number of times and frequently use it in inlays. It is also very hard, so it doesn't feel like regular wood and is much heavier. Horn normally does not have a swirled pattern like your item does nor does it have distinct pores running across the grain. If you are still unconvinced, do a hot pin test to the underside. Horn will not scorch, wood will. The mark the pin leaves can be sanded out with 400 grit and a little elbow grease.
