🔎 UNIDENTIFIED Wondering about the age of this hammer head.

At least I assume that it’s a hammer head. It was a solid glob of rust and mud when I found it.

Like a small machinist hammer, very well worn on each end.

The inside if the square hole has a shallow grove that is on 3 of the inside edges, shown in one of the photos.

This was found on a plantation in Mississippi from the 1840s.

Just wondering if it is indeed a hammer, what type it may be, and if it’s from way back when?

It very well may be a a hammer, but it's almost too small for that. :icon_scratch:
Hard to say really, as it could've come from any number of pieces of farm/plantation machinery.
