I found all of these on the side of the road. Most people drive right by, not realizing what a good find it could be. Some may swerve so not to run them over. Some just don't see them. Some see them and say "what a shame". Well, treasure is where you find it, but like most treasure...some cleaning up is required. I'll just post the after pics.

Hopefully I'll get $8-14/ea. for the first three (first one is damaged), $12-16 for the middle one and $25-35/ea. for the last three.

Yes, they are all road killed animals. 3 mink, 1 raccoon and 3 grey fox. They would have been left to rot on the side of the road, but I know how to care for them and I'm not one to pass up a good renewable resource, for gas money, if nothing else.

Great job on the skinning and taning of the hides. They look good. I tanned one deer hide quite a few years ago and with all the work it it. Once was enuff......lol.

Really nice.........HH......greg

Road kill is a lot easier then trapping them. I never could catch a fox. Here in Penna, it is illegal to pick up road kill fur bearers. About 25 years ago the game commission would place a dead coon along the road and hide in the woods near where I live. Anyone that stopped and placed it in there car was fined. There was a big fuss about entrapment, so they stopped doing it.

I trapped for 30 years so far, & bought fur for 15 of them, those gray fox look well furred & that coon sould grade out to be a number 1, the mink look pretty good too. Nice job putting them up. I send alot of mine out to Moyle Mink & Tannery, ever send anything out there? I see those aren't tanned.

Seger, no I've never sent them out to Moyle's. I always wonder how my mink look, it's so easy to take the saddle off, but on mink it should stay. All the fox looked good, one had to be sewed a bit, but couldn't tell from looking at it. Just for you, I'll show the rest of the fur I put up, incl the roadkill.

Nice finds and recycling a good to. Yeah, some other carnivores could have eaten them but at least they weren't left on the side of the road rotting and making people sick :D

Nice! That one coyote looks big!

That coyote was huge, even the DEP Biologist said it was a biggun. I didn't weigh it though, I guesstimated around 40-45 lbs.

Thanks all for the responses, nice to see folks appreciate the outdoors and the renewable resource.

Thanks for posting the additional photo, I can see you handle the furs pretty good. Not everyone can put up a coon & do a decent job of it, When I bought, I put up 1000's every year of the greasy buggers! Your coyotes are darn near twice the size of ours in Wi. Yeah, the mink you wanna leave the saddle meat on, but sometimes it's just so thin. I didn't know you could trap fishers out there either. We have to many of those in WI as well.

What a awesome post! Now that is terrific work there my friend! Beautiful furs you have made from something that would have went to waist. I applaud you and keep on doing it as you look to be a master at your skill. I love all types of furs and thats a really nice display of different furs in the photo!

Thanks Seger. I think this is our fourth year with a fisher season, with a limit of two each (my son also traps with me). Next season we may get an increase to four each.
I don't get many coon, or maybe I just don't target many coon. I like the "fur out" species, because I like to look at them and run my hands over them. The seven skunks were nuisance animals, and for some reason, I didn't catch one 'possum this year. I could've caught more beaver, but they're a lot of work so I was happy with seven.

Thanks Sentinel, not quite a master, but I do take pride in my fur handling skills. I try to give respect to the animal by doing it right, even though I'm much slower than most at putting up my fur.

Mind you now my trapping experience was in the late 1950's.

We had to square a coon hide on a board. Is that no longer the standard? You can case skin them?
