WI Homeowner Shoots Home Invader With Shotgun, May Have Been Targeted Due to Settlement Money

OCTOBER 20*2013
BY*DAN CANNON

A homeowner in Wisconsin was forced to defend himself, his girlfriend and his home during an attempted home invasion robbery earlier this month.

Jeremiah VanRemmen apparently fired several shots from a shotgun at a would be home invader.

The suspect was hit by the gunfire and is being treated at an area hospital. He is described as being in serious condition.

Jeremiah’s sister told a local news station that her brother was recently awarded a large settlement related to a work related injury.

She believes knowledge of the settlement and the fact that her brother flashed his newly acquired money around was the reason for the home invasion.

According to*TMJ4,

“I think he was just showing off his cash,” explains VanRemmen. “And people in Racine don’t care. They’ll do anything for a little bit of money.”

However, police haven’t stated if they have a motive for the crime and it is currently unknown if the suspect knew Jeremiah.
