Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

This is the precise reason I always check anything that appears to be a bit off or unusual. I've seen many 1965-1969 doing this as well as some from 198-. Although one Merc would make all those non Silver I checked completely worth it. Luckily my one Merc find had bright and shiny edges.

I always check anything that im not 100% sure about. I can only imagine how many good finds people have missed just because they were in a rush.

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

You are right always check any questionable coin nice find I love mercuries

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

very nice condition as well! great find =]

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

Nice find. I've found some mercs like that as well, but I'm usually let down when I see some black rimmed coin that turns out to be from 2008. lol

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

You're right apush! just earlier today, I was opening a half dollar roll- at first glance all looked copper, date checked all the coins(looking for certain dates- 72d, 74d, 87, 02+ and any silver, and out pops a 1966 half dollar with an edge that looked like any post 1971 half dollar. Sounds silver, just that tarnished. :icon_thumleft:

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

I check everything that is a solid color, no matter what the color. White, black, gray or whatever. When in doubt, check it out.

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

ehh i dont check black dimes... >:(

A winner!, APUSH. You've got eyes like a hawk!
Congrats,

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

Nice catch. If in doubt, always check. The older (Mercs and Barbers) have a tendency to turn black.

The tubes that are horizontal are Mercs and Barbers. The Barber tube is obvious. The vertical tubes are all Rosies. Note the black rims.

APUSH, you are correct! Nice find BTW :icon_thumleft:

I check the rims first. Then I go through the entire roll and look for anything out of the oardanary. The other day I missed a silver canadian by edge searching. I have also missed a few silver rosies.

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

Well done APUSH!!!!!!!! :hello2:

Re: Why we should listen to experienced CRHer's (pics)

Nice, and cool pics. I always check the dirty rims, I find in dimes there are a lot of dirty rims that turn out to be silver. Sometimes with halves too. Great score on the merc!

Diver_Down, know you know that is my favorite pic of all time! Those are glass or plastic cigar tubes? I have always wondered!

Happy Hunting to All!

School days are almost upon us! Trying to get Mr. Apush to take me to the beach one more time for R-N-R (and do a little metal detecting--with a Modelo or two) before August 22nd! Next year it will be those beautiful Florida beaches with white sand!

Glass tubes. The Mercs and Barbers have cork stoppers, and the Rosies have plastic caps. You've seen the picture a bunch of times. It is a bit outdated as I have a few more tubes to add. If you're looking to hit some white sand beaches, you better hurry. It seems the Army Corp has been on a rampage with renourishment projects.
