Why is the antiques and collectables section so dead?

There is very little activity there.

Is it because it is so far down the menu? Did it used to be active but now as the market has slid back everyone has lost interest?

Perhaps those things are easier to research so help is mostly not needed.

Just curious, it seems strange that on a site with so much varied interest nothing gets posted or apparently even looked at.

It's more active in the trift store and garage sale forums when folks find and have questions on things old. Quite a few specific topic forums have little activity. It might be like special interest groups, not that many other folk really care outside of a few politicians.

Real or fake?

Just joined today and very new here. Anyway, I have something I could use some help with. Is this Chinese lunch or wedding pail an actual antique, or new, even made from old parts, and made to look old? Any insights are appreciated. Thanks! IMG_6962.JPEG

I know what ya mean. I just checked the "photo equipment" section the other day and there has been no activity for more then 2 years.

My guess would be that its new. Get more opinions though im no expert just a well worn traveler. The Chinese have been making a lot of stuff like that and flooding the market. I've seen three large well buckets of wood that were all the same general style but fake. It is well made though so if you got it cheap enough so be it.

Only having been here for a couple of months I have no idea of what this site was. Is it more popular now, less, the same? Were these categories always like this or have they ebbed when the antique and collectibles boom ended?

Very interesting item. :icon_thumleft: Welcome to the forum!

Could it be because this site is broken into 80 different "forums", not to mention half as many more "sub-forums"?

To be honest, I never knew this existed. I just kinda skimmed this site a while back and joined because of my metal detecting interest. I do have "stuff" that I acquired through life that I don't know what it is nor the worth. Is this where I would post with pics to get feedback?

I learned in retailing that is never a good idea to have dead shelf space. It's bad people think your business is failing or that you won't have what they need and they start looking elsewhere.

Maybe Tnet should ditch that section and make it a one hit

'what is it' is a good place to get feedback, of a general nature unless a specialist drops by - of which there are a number
placing the object in its category will yield more informed viewers (who may only visit that section)

getting an informed opinion from an expert is not likely - other venues for that

having said all that, there are some stupendous items shown in Antiques

All the forums seem to have somewhat recent activity...who knows. Personally I'd be happy lumping marbles in with bottles..things like that. Who knows how this has evolved.

I've seen alot of those kinds of things more on what is it and today's finds instead of antique forums ect because of all the people who use those 2 forums The more people who use those antique forums people will come I check those forums myself
