I'm just getting started in relic hunting with my detector.? So I'm just now getting my research material together.? I found this book that I want at Barns & Noble? ? ?"Official Military Atlas of the Civil War"? by George B. Daves. printed it 2003? It's $19.98? The older 1993 used copy of the same book has 3 more pages but why does it cost so much more then the newer printed one??

May have to copy and past this link........

http://search.barnesandnoble.com/bo...+the+civil+war&userid=fF3OMJ4D0S&cds2Pid=9481

Take look then click on book #2 find used copies....

Some of you may want to order this book if you don't already have it................

Thanks for any info.......

Old books are collectable in their own right. First editions can cost thousands. Its no different than having a hundred year old oak table or a modern repro that looks the same and will be in better condition but the repro will never be worth much while the original will gain in value year on year.

The one that is $19 is only 12" by 16". I bought one for a friend that was the same book but twice the size, the maps are awesome and show more info than any old map I have even seen.

I see a lot of maps, it is part of my job. :)

You can also go to the website www.abebooks.com, and find about 11,000 booksellers throughout the world who sell books privately. Just fill out the search info, and if it's for sale anywhere in the world, it'll show up there. Good luck.

I think that is is the binding on the older books that make them cost so much, the two used ones that are almost $100 have blue cloths boards, and are embossed with silver, when the newer book just has a printed cover. That is my guess. Looks like a good book, I may consider buying one in the future.....too bad it doesn't have GPS coordinates.....lol
