Whos dredging? I just thought the river bottom needed some tidying up.

Who's dredging? I just thought the river bottom needed some tidying up.

Look at all that junk hanging around the bottom of those big rocks and around those Riverbends.
What a mess. I feel it's important that I do my part to try to help clean up the mess after these floods.
And I can't afford to waste a lot of gasoline and risk polluting the river.
So in the spirit of a more eco-friendly solution, that coincidentally falls outside the current dredging restrictions, I bring you this. I also recently posted this in the gold prospecting board. Even added some input from Neo-Tokyo.
Gravity Suction multiplier 1.0.png
Of course this is a concept drawing.
I want to start buying parts little by little until I can lay out the entire gravity dredge.
My goal is to use the current dredge Venturi I haven't been able to use because of the ban.
Therefore I plan to attach this gravity dredged to the output hose normally used by the pump.
When I finally get it all put together I think I'll need a couple of guys to help me bring it up to the mountain.
I got a good feeling about it. It seems to follow all the good laws of hydrodynamics that I understand.
And I already have a perfectly good dredge sluice and hoses, so why not make a legal way to use them.
I will grant you, it won't be quite as maneuverable and relocatable as a standard modern dredge.
But what the hell, nobody said gold mining was easy.
Tell me what you think, don't be shy.

Yea, after all, they have been beating us over the head with those rules. There is always a way as long as there is a will. Just ask the Green Lantern.
And my other favorite movie quote is "Never give Up, Never Surrender".
Personal Freedom is too important to be left with the politicians.
Besides, we pay them too much dam money to let them get away with deciding our fate.
You just wait til I get my stealth dredge built.

Here on the Arkansas I could see this dredge working. Velocity of the water vs a large drop in slope would make this work fine. BLM says don't need permits for this. Hmmm. So, will try this one and the 4" 100' hose. Couple of good spots to work. The dry land stuff at Pt Bar and GPOC claims are really getting worked hard. Very few hit the water, too cold. But my friend hit the shallow rapids and got some good gold with a Gold n sand pump. So, let this snow melt happen and look out!

Convalution is NOT the solution, keep it simpleas just hose sucks fine-John

Someone who is affiliated with a major mining gear manufacture suggested I use a large Fabric funnel and could increase the water pressure like 10x what my design can.
I like it!!!:goldpan:

What's a fabric funnel?? I gravity dredge just with a long hose.

Oh never mind looked at your drawing again and i see what you're trying to do. Too much for me to want to try lol. Good luck! Let us know if you get it up and running.

I have a perfectly good floating 4"suction dredge I can't use until I find a different way to run water through it. It's get creative time here. Plus I want to challenge the dredging ban and in a very public way. I want to see if I can get a news crew to video the Challenge when a ranger shows up. If I do a good job on the funnel it would mean free water power for a dredge, or high banker, even a small water turbine to turn a generator. We need to continue to be 3 steps ahead in "green" mining arena. Get and Keep public opinion on our side. :goldpan:
I am looking for ideas on what type of fabric to use. It needs to be strong but not too heavy.
I want to make it 12' long x 6'at the opening, down to an 8" exit to a 8" PVC pipe.:goldpan:

I'm not sure what you would use for that.. I would try it on a smaller scale first to be sure that it will work before investing a lot into it. I'm just wondering how the heck are you going to hold that thing in place lol. It's going to catch the flow for sure but what will stop it from flying down the river like a kite in a hurricane? I suppose you could support it with metal rods or something to keep the funnel open then tie it down somehow.. Or use some weights of some kind or both. Very interesting concept. I hope it will work for you.

Think funnel, buried as deep as ya can in between 2 boulders, in the fastest deepest part of any creek you can get to,with rocks stacked to retain in place and THEN ya got some psi-Start bigger than your working needs-say start 5"-then reduce to 4" then 3 or whatever to amp up them PSI and fly fly fly-JohnJohn

I am a mad mining scientist. I like to just build **** then see what it does, like my water wheel water pump I made out of 1 bike frame and the parts of 4 more bikes. It worked fine for 24 hours.

Hahaha cool!!!

Put that wheel to work powering up your campsite as you'd be amazed how much electricity can be generated from such a simple device-John

Believe it or not that is my current project. A floating undershot water wheel generator. I'm still collecting bike parts. The one in the pictures was disassembled to help make a generator. It is too difficult to make or find a 3' dam in the river to set up the pictured waterwheel. A floating one will be easier to setup almost anywhere on the river.

10-15 speed derailer sure does wonders for rpm. Bud made a air pump and a generator that way many years ago as survivalist,he just disappeared into the hills......bummer too as much to be learned from his expertise in survival skills-John
