Ground was frozen, was tough diggin' today, but flipped this frozen hockey-puck sized plug over and started giggling uncontrolably, because I knew it was a good coin, and its been awhile since i've found a good one like this.... 2013-03-27 14.01.59.jpg2013-03-27 14.02.21.jpg2013-03-27 14.03.50.jpg2013-03-27 14.03.59.jpg A little later, I spent a good 15 min tring to locate this tiny bugger of a pendant...2013-03-14 20.54.45.jpg2013-03-14 20.55.12.jpgI had to take the pics at home because my batt went dead on me after the token. The pendant says "ST Paul Ice Palace Winter Festival 1887". Its VERY tiny, about the size of half dime, and I had a tough time finding it, even tho my pinpointer was going nuts lol!!! Thanks for looking!

Those are awesome finds. What are the details on the token?

Wow incredible finds, I love tokens and celebration pendants. Almost as much as coins. Tokens seem to have more history surrounding them. Congratulations

So far this is all I can find: "Butte City (1866-1875), Montana, (Silverbow County) U.S.A."

Lienemann & Schmidt / Butte / City, / Mont.
The / California / 12 1/2c / In Trade
TC-#294333

This is according to the Tokencatalog site, however, I need to do more research as this token, does not say "In Trade". It is different than the other one I have seen, as it does not have a bear on it and it also does not say "Butte". I need to get ahold of the Montana tokens referance Manual and see if this version is in there. If not then I will have to send a pic to Mr. Rubic, the author so he can catalog it.

Nice find!!! That variety is not in Roy Rubick's MT Book. If you post it on www.tokencatalog.com, he will get a report of it.

The 1890 Polk's Butte City Directory shows Louis Lienemann & Charles Schmidt as proprietors of the California Brewery, located at 8 & 10 E. Broadway. The 1900 directory shows the same except the address is 42 N. Main. The 1909 directory says Louis A. Lienemann "removed to Bellingham, Wash." which evidently was only temporary as the 1913 directory shows him back in Butte as a clerk in Hennessy's - a department store, if I recall.

Hey thanks for the info Idahotokens! I never knew you could "post" tokens on tokencatalog.com, I'll have to give it a try.... Thanks again!

Everybody is encouraged to add to tokencatalog.com - that is how it is going to grow and become more valuable over time. The site may be down right now, but when you get to it, the "contribute" button is what to use. If you have any trouble, let me know and I can post for you if you want.

Idahotokens posted one of most recent finds, thanks again by the way. Hes right its a very useful site full of knowledge we can all use.

WONDERFUL TOKEN AND PENDANT! Green with jealous envy right now, but still I hope you find lots more! HH Andi

Very nice finds, and looks like one traveled a long way. The pendant is a trinket from the St. Paul Minnesota ice palace which I think was part of the annual Winter Carnival in the city. They started building them in 1886, so yours is from the second year. Lots of winter carnival collectors here so you might be able to sell it.

those are both super cool finds. congrats!

I would be jumping for joy with either of those! Rub my name, will you? I need some of your luck, lol! Congrats!

Happy Hunting!
