Got back Sat. from the beach and from detecting most that time. Finds were far and few other then clad. To make things right and get back on track we did some local digging.
The boy and I hit a new permission we've been trying to get a hold of for awhile now, timing was perfect.
14 Indians, 34 wheats, 2 buffalo's, and 6 silvers...
I took the lead in silvers finding 4 and the kid ran away with the Indians and wheats finding 10 Indians and 21 wheats.
Two of the kids wheats were 1909's with most his others being early wheats. I got two 1919's and a few other early ones.
All my IH dates were 1902, 1903, 1907 and a 1908. The kid's IH's were 1874, 1892, 1892, 1895, 1898, 1900, 1901, 1901, 1903 and a 1908.
My first silver find for the day was the best of the day so I'll save that for last. Lol My second silver was a 1945 merc that my pin pointer picked up just below the surface after I found it with the detector. It came up a 82 at 4" which was the same as the many memorials we were finding. I stuck the shovel just under the surface and the merc went flying.
Next was a silver ring marked .925 my first silver ring all year.
Next was one I always wanted to find, just never thought it would happen. It's just a Rosie but, it was flattened by a train. On this day I already found a couple flattened coppers and the kid found a couple too. This one is defiantly a dime and silver.
My last silver and the first one found for the day was a 86-88 hit at 4". Thought for sure I had a modern quarter being so shallow. Flipped a plug and had no trouble finding it with the pin pointer. Grabbed it out of the hole and got one swipe with the thumb removing the caked on dirt when I saw it wasn't a modern quarter, 1895 Barber!!
And it's from New Orleans.
I found all 4 of my silvers before the kid found any and evert time I'd find silver he would just shake his head. Then he found a 1935 merc of his own followed up by a silver pendant.
We both found a buffalo, his a no date and mine a 1935.
Also found a YMCA token and a little pendant. Not sure if the pendant is silver or aluminum.

We couldn't have asked for a better day specially after hunting hard all week at the beach and coming up empty.

What an amazing site - wow - I'm dreaming of my first "virgin" site like that . That Barber is at least a semi key date/mint Nice.

Great day DS! The beach hunts never did it for me so my vacation in Florida was spent mostly drinking. Anyway, I don't have a book in front of me but ain't those "O" mint barbers in the latter half of the 1890's worn some dough? Anyways, congrats

Steve

Killer dig...
Bet your dying to go back.

With a permission like that, what the heck you need a beach for? Awesome finds, on an awesome hunt, with a fantastic partner. What more could you ask for.

Maybe a few cold ones to wash the dust down. :occasion14:

Ya nothing like the home (wheat) field advantage! You guys did great! A ton of silvers and one with an "O" mint mark! Congrats!
The silver ring looks old.

Congrats to you and the boy on the really sweet finds. I am an IHC fan, so all those Indians really look good to me. The smashed Rosie, IMO, is a spectacular find, as is the Barber quarter. Very well done.

Really nice finds. But who needs the beach? I do and here is why. Hard ground doesn't sift well through my sand scoop, and my knees don't like the hard ground when digging. Plus the biggest downer if your not at the beach is the lack of eye candy which is one of the joys of metal detecting at the beach or Lake Michigan for me. LOL

I blame the eye candy for not allowing me to concentrate and find stuff! Nice finds, deershed!

now that's more like it, heck with them beaches lol

I hear you on the eye candy!! Might be part the reason I couldn't find gold. Lol

Can't argue about the sand sifter not working too good in dirt either. Gotta say I got a blister from my sifter from so many hits. Lol

SO ANTLERS YOU ARE BACK AT IT AGAIN I SEE. VIRGIN MARY WAS WATCHING OVER YOU AND YOU GOT YOURELF A NICE QUARTER AND SOME PENNIES FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND A RING WITH A COOL DESIGN AND A LITTLE TINY AZTEC WARRIOR WHO HAS HIS EYES ON THE INJUNS AND THE BUFFALOS AND OLE MERC SEEMS TO BE TAKING IT ALL IN STRIDE. NICE...

Great looking site. Nothing like silver coming out of the hole. Never really beached hunted much. Kinda stuck on the old stuff.
