Who needs Bernard Romans when you have the Boston News-Letter ?

The Boston Newsletter reported the Whydah sinking on the front page with a proclamation by Governor Samuel Shute. I'll see if I can attach that page soon.

From the wiki article on Wm Phips: "In the early 1680s, Phips began to engage in a favorite colonial pastime of treasure hunting in the Bahamas."

Few of those would have kept records, or that survived. The takeaway though, is that there was a following of wrecking that was limited by the ability to raise cash, or get up the sobriety to leave the rum shops.

A reading of Phips' bio gives us a glimpse into the practice though, both his and others. Sort of like us if you think about it.
