Would welcome any ideas on this small bronze object. As you can see from the pics it was once attached to iron. What's the reason for the two grooves, decoration or functional ?.

What an awesome find.
It has my vote as a linch pin from that info above - and IMHO, the Banner if proven so.

How was it found?

Hi Mike, It was found on a site that as produced plenty of artifacts and coins from Celtic through to modern. Had this Celtic gold coin from the same area.
